A group of us are looking to book this venue but before doing so I just thought I'd ask if anyone has any experiences of the lake either good or bad?

Thanks in advance!

Better be quick Graham as I booked 3 years ago to be able to fish it in April next year.I think there's only availability for November 2016/2017 ...Looks an amazing water and going off their catch reports plenty of 50's and bigger coming out.
Best of luck getting the week your after unless your booking for 2018 then you "might" still have a good selection.

there are a few threads on here that are a bit older about the lake which are worth searching for. i've been quite a few times (also have 2016 and 2017 trips booked) but as said below its quite booked up now (not sure 2018 books is open yet). its about 230 miles away from Calais, easy driving too. Its not the easiest of waters but when you catch one there's a very good chance will be a lump. there isn't much under 30lb in there. check their facebook page for weekly updates of catches

off the top of my head:

plus points

a lot of big fish to 90lb. wouldn't like to guess how many 50+ but there's a lot. good number of 60s too.
Use of a boat all week to (one in each swim)
each swim has a weigh station and mats and floatation slings are provided.
cabins behind the pegs with fridge freezers and UK electric points in
drive right round the lake and park behind your peg
supermarket 5/10 minutes away
2 decent shower blocks / toilets round the lake
decent pizza restaurant 5 mins away if you fancy an evening out

minus points.

well there are very few. there is no drinking water on site, but just buy the big 5L bottles from the supermarket or fill up form the petrol station up the road.

I cant really knock the place. I think ive been there 5 times now and will keep going back!

That's very helpful thanks for taking to time to reply, I'll do the searches. A group of 8 of us have been on Mar Peche for the last few years but now it's time for a change, as far as I am aware I think Island lake is not far away so know the drive is fairly easy just wanted to check it's recommended.

Now it's just a matter of trying to get a booking as not on FB. Cheers

Their 'sister' lake Cedars is okay. Had fish to 50+ .

Great facilities. Hut's behind the swims with power, cooking, full height fridge freezers, 2 single beds. Running water onsite.

Not a big lake. I'd call it a runs water if you happen to be fishing the bank opposite the house as this produced best. Had nearly thirty fish the first year we went and nearly the same the second year upto 50+.

You still need to find the spots though....

I have two places booked for 1st to 8th of April 2017 which I may have to cancel.
If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll let you know as soon as I know which will be within the next month.
All I want is the extortionate deposit of £20 I paid to reserve the dates and I'll sort out the paperwork.

We are looking to book the lake probably 2018 as its almost fully booked till then, and i have a couple of questions
The lake has 10 swims i believe ? do 8 anglers fit comfortable on the lake, this would make it cheaper per angler but potentially less room if people wanted to move around.
More importantly any idea when bookings are to be taken for 2018 ?

I think you will find that they only allow 8 anglers on now, exclusive week or not.

The nearest village for your sat navs is Bazoches Les Bray, best thing to do is turn off the main D road at the petrol station, head straight through the village and out the other side, going towards the river Seine, the lake is right at the side of it 👍

I would deffinately take The Hartford mix as bait aswell, the fish love it 😜

It depends, which Mick is on the week you fish. If Mick B is on he will normally fish from his chalet in between pegs 13 & 14. I have seen on occasions that he will close pegs 13 & 14 and have that area for himself if he is there that week, sometimes it will just be peg 14 that gets closed, both 13 & 14 are single pegs.

If Mick H is on that week I doubt he will do any fishing, if you are fishing as a double then all the double pegs will be in the draw no matter what, that is what has happened the past 3-4 years we have been going.

Not sure if Mick Bowman will fish from where he normally does this year, his cabin and container, where burnt to the ground while they wern't there this winter, due to an electrical fault.

It's such a shame, they will have to replace everything that was in the container.

He did mention that he plans to rebuild in the spring, so we will have to see what happens.

You must be on a lake exclusive if you know your already fishing 12 mate (hope the fish are in front of 12 on your week) but if you watch Kevin Ellis on this site he gives you a few good pointers and is a bloody good video to boot.Best of luck on your visit mate.

Peg 10 can be a good swim as the fish do get in that bay, but don't cast right the way across. I have seen it time and time again and it pushes the fish straight out. There should be a clear plateau just right of peg 11 close on not far from the pump. Also u can get onto the fish in open water straight out of 11, don't cast too far as u will push into 8s water. Good luck

Swim 12 is always consistent. Week in week out it does fish. When I have fished it it's always been summer so I have always fished close to the weed beds. I've not really been bothered if it's hard bottom of a little silty as I have caught from both in the past. Last year I fished peg 7 and caught well straight out in open water on a clear hard patch.

I found this map in the cabin at some point and just took a picture of it on my mobile. so don't blame the messenger!

I hope I can remember how to post pictures on here, its been a while!!

got back Saturday. had a great trip. all 8 anglers caught and had 23 fish between us (4 x 60lb+ )

the krays weren't bad but id still mesh up. what were becoming a nuisance though are the rudd. some of them are 2/3lb now and completely massacre the bait you put in. a couple of the lads caught them on carp gear or when dropping the rigs in!

next year i'll be taking bigger (20mm) baits and wont be chopping them at all.

Spoke to my mates last night there are 3 of them there this week 1 is blanking 1 has had a couple both 30's and the other has had a few 50's,40's and 30's mostly through the night as it cools down a bit but generally it is a bit slow all over the lake with odd fish out to other anglers I'm sure it will get better moving into the second half of the week.

hi, due on Island Lake in a few weeks, just looking for some advice on boilie sizes. Reading the thread it would seem that it would be best to take, maybe 18s and 20s, We normally use 16s and 18s. Also hook sizes, given the average size of the fish in the lake I would feel that a size 4 would be about right. I normally uses 6s and haven't had too many issues dropping fish, and obviously its a personal choice, but maybe 6s a bit small for this lake ? any comments welcome. thanks.

Go for the larger bolies and hooks plus strong line too.
Have some hardened ones and mesh too, some pegs have a few crays knocking about, don't forget your MCF dumper lead clips, good & mandatory
Tight lines Chris

i was using a mix of different size 4s mainly.

18-20mm boilies and size 4 hooks will do you fine. Also mesh or plastic shrink wrap your hardened hook baits as the crays can be a nightmare on there. I used the plastic shrink wrap and found it to be excellent, better than meshing with tights IMO. Fish for a bite at a time.

I blanked at the end of October along with the majority of guys our week, although 2 of the guys had a good time. Think I saw one fish roll all week in someone else's swim so that was a bit gutting but am going back at the end of October 2017.

Is there a route to Island avoiding the peripherique? I travelled from another lake last year but the rest said they used it? Need a quick route back for the FA Semi Final

If you stay on the A26 you go nowhere near Paris. Bit of a longer journey though

Does anyone know if they've spawned here yet or showing any signs as it seems to have slowed down a bit going off the catch reports over the last couple of weeks. Cheers

Quickest way is A26 towards Reims, take the A4 towards Paris then set your sat nav for the lakes 4 hours max costs about €60 return, non of that Paris hassle.
It's the route Mick hall takes.

Just to let anyone who is out next week that the majority of the fish started spawning about 1 o'clock this morning and are still going for it now.Im not expecting great things this week but the people following on next week should do really well as they should ??? be on the munch big time.

Even though they spawned for the 1st few days of my trip I still had 6 fish which I was more than happy with...34,2x41's,2x45's and a 49 all mirrors.I came out last as usual (The last 4 trips) in the draw and fished peg 6 which was my 3rd choice of swim.4 fish came from the bar towards peg 12,1 from open water and 1 from the bay to the right. The baits were coming back slightly chewed/Clawed so be aware of your leaving your rods out for long periods. The favourite peg 12 didn't seem to hold the usual amount of fish as not many fish showed their the entire week where they'd normally be showing every hour which was good as they were well spread out for a change.Brilliant week none the less on a superb well run fishery and I'll have to wait till April for another crack when they "shouldn't" be spawning.Anyone know of an efficient rig to drop from a boat amongst that onion grass type weed as i could see the fish threw the aqua scope half to three quarters buried in it rooting about but I get paranoid when placing my rig from a boat as I feel I must be able to see the hookbait.Maybe its just a touch of OCD I know but im not confident watching my hookbait vanish from sight when placing the rig even in a pva bag.Next year I may have to bite the bullet on one rod for the week and see what happens?
The best of luck to any of you lucky people heading out there this year.

Sounds like a great week!

That's something that I was thinking about for my return trip. Perhaps pasting up the hookbait and just bang it in the weed on a short hair with a 2 foot hooklink. If they're ripping up the bottom enough then the fish will find it eventually.

I fished clear spots last October but in fairness didn't see a fish in my swim all week (swim 2) so I'm not sure fishing in the weed would have changed anything, but definitely want to avoid the clearer areas next time, at least on one or two rods.

Anyone know of an efficient rig to drop from a boat amongst that onion grass type weed

I fished peg 6 last year, and in the middle of that very onion weed you speak of. my rig was one that not many would possibly use but it was effective and bought me a few extra takes. I used a supple uncoated braid hooklink of about 18-20 inches with a very critically balanced bait on. I slowly dropped the lead and then let the bait sink slowly and sit on top of it.

Welcome to the site Justin.
I'm out there W/C 7th April for my 3 visit now so not really an expert but I found it was best to pick 3 or 4 spots that your happy with (you can see the bottom in 8' as it's crystal clear) and bait them little and often with Boilie/Chops/Crumb and keep an eye on them and fish them accordingly.
Make sure you have a single bankstick setup for at least one rod as you'll find that in most swims have some lovely bays beside them which you can't fish if you have all 3 rods on a pod.
I also found an Aqua scope really handy and also a pair of waders or similar.
Defiantly top up your boat skills as in my opinion there invaluable to find clear spots and dropping your rigs near the far or near margin.
Good luck and don't forget your thermals as the forecast is looking a bit fresh but hopefully that'll change.

See you there if that's your week also

I struggled in peg 13 and only had 3...A 37 mirror a 49 common and a 3lb Rudd 😳,
The water was a good 4' abound normal summer level and very coloured making seeing the bottom near impossible in anything over 8'.I couldn't find much weed either which made selecting spots much harder.
Still had a great time with Mick and Finn and returning next September when the water levels and weed should about spot on.
Wonder how hippopotamus got on as still no report...Shame really

I thought from what i have read and watched its weedy most of the time so thats a bit of a surprise, guess it varies from season to season in this mad worlds weather we live in these days

I have been twice this year, April and July and weed wasn't a problem.
What was is the crayfish, absolute nightmare in July.
Shrink wrapping baits done the trick but not ideal.

Managed to get 3 in July, 42lb, 49lb and a 65lb.
Fished hard all week, think around 9 fish come out in total.

I was there last week in peg 13 and had 12 fish to 51lb (lost 2). think it was my 7th or 8th trip out there now. Was a great week for me but some of the others struggled. 23 fish out all week i think and we were only on 4 as of wednesday mid week report! We had a great laugh out there though.

Apparently Mick B will still be involved with Cedars going forward but at this time its not known if they will still be involved with Island. will be interesting to see what the new owners have in store.

the crays werent ideal for me and you needed to double wrap the baits (korda stuff is the best ive found) but it doesnt make a difference really as still caught. weed wasnt a problem (there is some still there but its a non issue) but i think they treat it early in the year now.

In 13 I had one rod to the left, mid-water, one to the old jetty in the margin of the island and one down the right margin just past mick's swim.

My one and only trip to the island lake thus far saw me draw peg five, we went first week in October a couple of years ago. I fished just to the right of the boundary marker with peg 4 about 15 feet of the island bottom is relatively firm with a layer of silt and a scattering of weed. Middle rod was fished towards tip of island and right hand rod just off end of island. Week fished quite hard but I managed a couple on the last night on stiff rigs with wafters on the LHR. Fish were active all week but didn't get there heads down. I would say preserve and be confident in your tactics they are wise fish but they gotta eat some time!!

2 weeks ago there was a lot of floating weed around the island and peg 5 was fishing close to this as they were all hiding under it.

there is a huge bar in 5 that runs from the mouth of the bay between peg 4-5 that i've had fish off in the past. However the water is low so may be a bit shallow at the moment

Hi guys, hopefully myself & my wife Christina will be the new owners of Cedars & should be in place by Feb 19 if all goes to plan, just an update on Mick Bowman, Mick will stay close to Cedars & as long as the purchase goes ahead we wil be working with Mick going forward, as we will be living permanently on site we hope to bring some extras to Cedars like an optional bait package for 2019 & possibly a food package for 2019/2020 plus a few other touches which we hope will make your stay with us all the more enjoyable, I fished Cedars last week & alongside Clint & his son Eathan at the other end we had a great week with 2 x mid 60's mirrors, a 56lb common, several 40's & about 10 x 30's, we had 38 fish in total, a great weeks fishing was had by the 3 of us & we made 2 good friends at the same time, Mick B is ya man for bookings, hopefully we will see some of you guys & girls in the coming years, until then tight lines to you all. Hi guys,
I'm back out at Island in 3 weeks and have been told several times now that the crays are quite active. Has anyone been recently or know someone who has that could verify this? Is it localized in specific swims or all over. I've been the last 3 Aprils and not this time of year so never experienced an issue.

I'd really love to but I don't think I'll be able to swing it with the mrs as have a trip booked elsewhere too.

As for the crays, both my trips have been in October and they weren't too much of a pain but definitely present if fishing harder spots. Would be worth wrapping your baits. I didn't have any issues when fishing softer spots.

i was there a month ago. they are a pain out there at the moment. you will need to mesh your baits up and i wouldnt dream of not doing so.

i used the Korda stuff and needed to wrap it twice. i wrapped the bait once on one and the little ****ers managed to get the all of the pop up out of the end bits. was left with nothing but a bit of shrink wrap on.

this was in peg 13, some swims were effected as badly as others but i wouldnt be chancing it at all.

Evening all, Out early November on whole lake booking with 6, not fished it for two years, Does MCF still work well or is there another bait people are finding effective.

Catch reports seem to of drifted off over the last year or so, with pressured waters like many in France always find something different can work well.

Gone a bit quiet on the forums about the lake, I remember when you couldn't get on it for the waiting lists.

What swims do you like fishing, never fished 13 but done well in 5 and 12

Depends on the time of year for pegs i guess. i have fished every swim except 12 and 2 i think. my best hit came from peg 10/11 (16 bites) and then 13 (14 bites) this year. biggest fish ive had there was from 4. think 13 and 1 are probably my favourite pegs if i had 1st choice.

the waiting lists are still pretty long i think. i know Mick has a full book for the next year pretty much. ive not booked for 2020 though as having a year somewhere else now.

Out next Saturday and the fish look well spread still. The warm weather at the begining of this week should keep them that way before it cools and they drift back into the bowl! Anyone been in the last few weeks know what the cray situation is like?

Don't get obsessed by the deeper water... I fished it for the last time a couple of years ago in peg 4.

Had a 42,52 & 72 in the bay to the right... first week of November.

They'll move away from the pressure.

Same with most lakes, often fish move into the areas not being fishing, quite a few people rest there swims for a day and night especially on charge over day, lots of thrapibg water noise, bobby pegs going in fish move in, I don't have that faith but I know it's worked well for others, also only fishing one rod.

But stuck at Island as it's boiler only, like fishing something different, also don't fish with lots of bait. The norm for prior is to fill it in it seems.

Paul has done alot of work on the lake and introduced some fresh fish to an already impressive stock. The crayfish are there but well managed so it's hit and miss on spots. The Korda shrink wrap criss crossed is all you need even on pop ups just to be sure. I've fished the lake 8 times in various swims from April to September with fish to 70lb so if anyone wants to PM me i'll do my best to help. Top venue and facilities.

8 times, blimey that's impressive. Putting our football differences to one side 😉, has the work on the new swims ( close 7/8 open new swim 9) taken place do you know ? Was a few other swims going to be closed or opened but I lost track. Thanks.

When i went last in July the swims were as normal and i understand they still are. The area in 9 has been cleared but that's it and some work in 2 and 5. There is a nice new toilet and shower block installed by the gate too. There's no swim 14 for thise that would remember it.

Peg 12 is definitely the "Best" peg on the whole lake.

I have done a April trip and a July trip.
April trip I was in peg 10 and blanked, didn't see a fish in my peg all week.
My mate was in 12 and caught the most fish out of everyone.

July trip I was in Peg 12 and caught the majority of the fish for the week including a 65......

Fishing 2 rods towards the far margin and one to open water.
We was using shrink wrap due to the crays but this was 4 years a go and I think the cray situation has improved.

Nice lake but can be challenging especially in March.

April trip Peg 12 fished very well then peg 13 and finally 7+8.

All the best 👍

I believe he means the spit in front of 12 that runs from directly in front of you to the right into the bay.

Thought I would better reply before the game
I was there in October and peg 9 was going to be a new double, 7&8 were going, 3&4 going (I think) so 2 and 5 has more space, or at least that was my understanding. 10&11 going as well to accommodate the new double in 9.
Just wondered how far they got as due back out this May time. Think the idea is more double swims so you have someone on hand to help with the fish, assumes you catch of course. Tricky water for sure.
To #160 - peg 12 is not always the best peg in my experience although the most popular.

'Thought I would better reply before the game'

Yes you are right that was/is the plan but not sure if it has been actioned. As i said, swim 9 has been cleared in readiness and several of the cabins have been renovated including raising the dreaded low door frames. 3/4 will be the new home of Mick and Deb as it receives the most sun!!! Agree with you about 12. Being a bit of a preperation freak i always went through the prior years catch reports and listed numbers of fish by swim. 12 always came out on top however it is more of a numbers game in that swim and doesn't do lumps as often as some of the other swims. I've had the same fish twice in a week from there and believe the bay holds resident fish. Many of the snags have been removed over the years so it's not quite as prolific. From over 25 fish in several weeks in 12 the biggest fish i had from there was 58lb which is not to be sniffed at but not huge by Island standards. 12 just pretty much guarantees action at some stage during the week. Interesting how 7 has gone down hill over the last few years. It was up there with 12 but has fallen behind several other swims. Still does it's share but not the swim of old.

if there are only 3 of you don't be afraid to move about. I've not fished it since the new owners took over but they certainly used to move about and find the areas with fewer lines

reckon i've done 8/9 trips since 2011-2019 and have fished all of the "old" pegs (except 12 weirdly lol). Peg 13 out fished the rest on all but 1 trip I think...
