Ah yeh, seen he does a loop for his multi rig. Mine is very similar except i still used a rig ring. looks an idea worth exploring. Was thinking if ever using double bottom baits and long rig might want the extra few mm

Was experimenting this eve with, what to do if felt I wanted extra separation on my slip Ds. Came up with a neat solution. Instead of using a mini ring swivel, use a large rig ring then use some old doubled up mono as the floss. Cut blob as usual, adds a good few mm between the bait and hook. You end up with a little ring of mono under the bait running through the rig ring.
Looks good (untested)

Technically speaking the rig Mike Holly is using is a multirig not a slip D
You can’t change the hook on a slip D

I was about to suggest looking at the Mike holly video from the esp channel, thats how I've tied my slip d for a while now, makes changing hooks etc so easy, can have a few spare hooklinks tied and just take a hook from the packet as and when required.

I personally have not had any issues with the slip d, i slide about 2cm of 1mm silicone tubing, which holds it all in place.

If i was planning on using a d rig then i would use it straight through with no silicone and switch to mono or fluro for the material.

No doubt your rig would catch but its too over engineered imo and you would save time using something a little simpler.

Heres a link to the easiest way to tie a slip d, i think he uses 0.75mm but depends on what size hook u use,a bigger hook will require 1mm tubing.

Hi everyone, just posted this in another D rig post. But thought it may be of interest to some of you here as well in regards to the slip D rig.

I have some confidence issues with the slip D,

1. It really needs PVA tape or stick every cast as the supple D can twist and get tangled. Had this a few times now.

2. If there's a lot of fish disturbance on the spot or you get done, it can also cause the supple D to wrap and tangle or Just be unset and sit funny.

Have tied up this rig, just as a prototype which avoids the above issues but incorporates a stiff D instead. I guess slightly less hook bait movement and a little less separation (Maybe) However I think it may be worth a shot. Please feel free to give me some feedback on it.

I guess its a cross between a D rig and a Combi rig

Cheers

I've been using trig hammers for slip d rigs and the only issue i have ever had was hooking into a tree branch that came down in a storm, was putting maximum pressure to get it moving and eventually pulled free

Opened the hook out a bit but still didn't break it, even the hook point didn't turn

I used Nash fangX hooks for a while and they worked perfect rarely ever got a hook pull.
I love the mechanics of the Slip d and its reseting properties works really well. Im gonna try a long shank slip d this up and coming year for scientific purposes . Got the ESP trig hammer hooks to try, they do seem a bit thinner than the nash ones use size 5s. I just realized the comments about the trig hammer damn, the pattern looked awesome.
Im gonna give them a try non the less.

Funnily enough I quite like the fact that Korda hooks seem a little softer as they are easier to sharpen. But agree that out of the packet their regular range are not as sharp as most others.

A slip rig gives great separation, leaving the hook in the mouth longer.

I prefer a long shank hook to exagerate this effect.

. . .agree - Muggas do not die! Decent gauge as well so will take the Jag diamond file to extend their useable life . . .

Rarely, if ever use any other hook these days . . .

I have the same problem with Trig hammers, they seem blunt when you reel them in after just 1 night, it's happened on different venues as well.. My other hooks are still sharp, I love the pattern but can't keep them sharp

I found Korda hooks were terrible, they did not hold any sharpness for long, and were often not as sharp as other makes straight out of the packet.

I used Kurvs at Nazeing when I pinched a rig off a mate. I got a couple of missed takes, so retied same rig with a Gardner Mugga. From missed takes, (or odd bleeps), the next cast in the same spot produced a big 20 mirror.
My mate also had odd bleeps on his rigs on the Kurvs, and could not get fish despite fishing exactly the same. He switched to ESP hooks and started landing fish.

I played around at home, and with a 3oz lead was able to lift the rig and lead off my desk with the point on my thumb, the Korda hooks simply were not sharp enough.
With Gardner hooks and Daves choice of ESP hooks, the hook penetrated and became too painful to lift, long before the full weight of the lead was felt.

From then on I have never used a Korda hook, including the specially sharpened Kamakura hooks, I simply do not trust them.

With both Gardner and ESP hooks I have had multiple fish on one hook, they hold their sharpness.

Only hook I’ve ever had snap was a Krank, twice. Both on lilly stems, not good. I liked the pattern at the time so went onto the Krank X and never had the same problem.

Now using trig hammers and haven’t had any of the point issues raised on here, I do give them a run over with a file myself though.

I’ve had kranks, blunt out the pack, points roll over after every fish and straighten when snag fishing. The pattern is great just feel they need to sort out these issues

If you go for the kranks then check every hook out the packet.I had a krank snap on me when unhooking a fish, when I checked it the hook was a lighter grey colour than the rest. The korda rep said it had probably missed part of the strengthening process.Thats the one and only issue I have had with korda hooks

Perfect thanks mate I do like the kamakura hooks aswell because the water I do most of my fishing (not all) isn’t a runs water so ever fish counts. For other waters I’ll use the normal krank hooks.

I do like the look of a krank hook on a slip d it definitely looks the part

I’ve never had any problems with Korda hooks tbh mate and had cats to well over 40lb on them and carp well over 30lb, heard this a few times but most of the time found its mainly user error or non balanced tackle. The esp trighammers do look good tho

Yeah I use the size 4 kamakura kranks on slip d rigs and have total faith in them. Ruined after 1 fish maximum 2 (the odd hook can be resharpened but most turn right over) but I don’t mind that as it’s not a runs water I fish. Never had them straighten or break though.👍

Never had a korda hook snap on me and have had carp to 68 and cats to over 150 on them. You fishing a rainbow with size 8s or something?

I use size 4 wide gapes or fox wide gape straight points on a slip D. Muggas for everything else. Trig hammers look great for them but i have heard quite a few stories of the points dulling very easilly

Won’t touch Korda hooks after straightening out and snapping them.
Esp trighammers are what you need for a slip D.

Just a quick question I normally use kurv shanks size 4 or 6 for my slip d rig, but I was wondering if anyone has used a korda krank hook for a slip d? I love the krank hooks but never used them for a slip d only on my ronnies.

What’s everyone’s opinion on this?
