I often fish a lake with a silty choddy bottom.

I have been using a helicopter setup with ronnie rigs.

I was using 25lb (0.55mm) Korda boom on the ronnies which never tangled but was a bit concerned as to how it was sitting on the bottom so tied some boom sections using a thinner 0.40 IQ fluoro.

Twice I reeled in to find the rig had tangled around the lead free leader (fox ready tied)

Is there any better alternatives I could try to eliminate this problem or do I go back to the korda boom.

I tie my booms at 6" long and the leader has a quick change swivel for me to quickly attach them to. I always use an anti tangle sleeve here.

I fish silty lakes in the northwest and use the exact rig you describe. Caught shed loads on it, it definitely works 👍

I was concerned with how stiff the boom was and was told about Korda snag leader XT. So I decided to try it out. I have to say, it reminds me of Amnesia a little bit. It crimps well, always test the crimp though. A perfect in-between material, neither stiff nor supple. It casts a treat, I'm casting regularly over 120 and never had it tangle. I use 5 inches and also 9 inches depending on what it's fishing on or over.

I would 2nd the Korda xt snag leader been using it for my d rigs it's the perfect mix of stiff enough not to tangle but supple enough it has some movement. I have heard people crimp it but have not myself. I've used 4 turn grinner and whipping knots for my d rigs and it knots very well. Recently I got snagged in what I assume was a underwater branch of a sunken tree and with the xt snag leader as my hooklink and ta sbx braid as my main line I straighten a size 4 hook pulling for a break so it's also stronger than you would ever need I've also used Korda boom, Gardner trick link and hybrid stiff and the xt is my favorite out of all of them, this year I used 25lb boom and hybrid stiff for my Ronnie's I'm definitely switching to xt snag leader. A added bonus is you get 5x times the material for less.

Do you soak in warm/hot water before for knotting?

Never felt the need to do that just use saliva on the knot to help it pull down tight.
