So how accurate is the GPS on the bait boats available? Is it really pinpoint like some claim or is there much margin for error? What are you experiences??

Having owned both rt4 and currently rt7 i can safely say its within 1m. Some would say that's too much but i would like to see these people cast every cast inside 1m 😂. Accuracy is heavily dependant on amount of satellites picked up!
Also had a toslon xboat with xr310 and experienced varied. If you calibrate the compass and gps every single time you use the boat is was fairly accurate but nothing like the carplounge boats.
Carplounge boats are great............. when they don't sink

Toslon TF740 on my boat is accurate to between 1-2M - usually depends on the number of satellites as this can affect accuracy. Tbf I dont think it matters that much as you can always use the sonar if you want to be really accurate / nudge to the spot accordingly. . .
There are systems you can now buy - Bait Boat Tech (FB) uses autopilot, high precision, kinematics, hyperlock to get accurate within millimetres . . .but it'll cost you an additional £850 and they're currently only fitting to Toslon XBoats etc . . .

I've had a very different experience. The toslan with 740 was way more accurate than an rt4 element

No it's not pinpoint, anyone who tells you that is lying.
It's been a long time since I looked into it but GPS accuracy is widely shown on the Internet, just have a search. I seem to remember 3' but that might be radius, so 6' circle.

There is updated tech available now thats been in use in other industries for a while (most likely defence but also agriculture) - RTK
- RTK uses a fixed base station and a mobile receiver to communicate and correct errors in satellite signals
- RTK corrects for atmospheric interference, satellite orbits, and timing inconsistencies
- RTK can achieve centimetre-level accuracy, which is much more precise than standalone GNSS receivers
There's a couple of companies that do it and will customise your boat - almost bought a Berns Boat that came ready fitted but realised I didn't actually need that level of accuracy in reality!
No boats on the market currently have this as standard - expect the rt12.1 to incorporate it for an extra £2k . . . coming to a CarpLounge retailer near you soon

I would not gets sucked into this GPS system on boat A is superior to boat B.
You can have the best accuracy but in the real world many lakes like one I fish has high voltage power lines going across which play havoc, they ultimately weaken / degrade the signal.
Consider the GPS just one of a number of things you have of finding out about the swim your fishing.

There are all sorts of factors to consider.
Let's ignore RTK or DGPS.
If you're using stand alone GPS on a hand held receiver or basic bait boat. You would hope for 2 to 3 m. Of accuracy.
But what is accuracy and how is it measured and calculated.
Any trained surveyors please explain this.
I taught myself 30 odd years ago but the brain matter is getting slow these days.
Main thing is mark your spot well and that will help with you returning to that spot time and time again. It will get you into the correct area and then the echo sounder to find your spot.
And remember GPS and the other satellite systems require a clear view of the sky and don't like changing directions rapidly.

Thats impressive tech, reminds me of the stuff in tractors to drill/harvest etc fields in farming but even that has issues with satellite and they pay £1000s for the subscription.
Even with the tech, my view is it's still pointless re the notion of pin point in bait boats. Your boat is subject to the wind and by the time it registers as on the spot, opens the doors and drops the bait, your past it, so any notion of pin point is silly. Having saud that I still like the tech, it'll get you close to the area and as long as you've a good bait that's good enough for me.

I've also noticed that on my phone different apps will interpret GPS differently - this suggests some post processing of the raw location data I.e. there may be a question about which sensor is the most accurate (in multiple conditions), and then also the software interpreting this data.
