I got a ridgemonkey cover for Xmas last year and it works fine, as said switch it on a couple of minutes before you use it.

Also remember to switch it off after use as it doesn't have a power indicator, if you don't your stove goes WHOOSH next time you light it as I found out

The water doesn’t need to be anywhere near boiling point to get the stove roaring. This ‘trick’ has been around a hell of a lot longer than power packs and hand warmers.

I think the idea is you take the chill off the water, just get it hand hot.
But then you stick a freezing cold canister in the water and it will turn back to near freezing...
It's witchcraft

I have always scratched my head with this the boiling water trick

so to boil a kettle when freezing temps make it nearly impossible you boil some water to then be able to boil some water

I've got one and it works fine for me. Turn it on a couple of minutes beforehand and its good to go. I don't fish in really cold weather so can't say what its like then, but on the occasion when it was cold enough for the stove to struggle a bit, it worked well.

I know the boiling water trick but you’ve got to keep boiling water, this seems a lot more convenient if it works properly. I’ve taken the risk and ordered one anyway, I’ll let you all know what it’s like.

I went the route of a cover and a cup warmer. It worked but the cup warmer took a couple of minutes to warm up and the USB plug into my powerpack got quite hot, so junked them. Out of choice I use Go System gas, but have been using up my Coleman's over the summer, it does slow down once it gets cold, but turning it upside down and waiting has always got the kettle boiled.

DONT buy a normal cover alone !!
as they can actually make it worse !!...................you may have noticed sometimes when using a gas stove the tin of gas gets a frost forming on the bottom of the can well the cover can keep this in and make it worse
however if you pop one of these disposable hand warmer things under it
or you could go down my prefered route dont need a cover simply stand your tin of gas on it when you want a brew plug it in takes just a min then unplug

as I always have a powerbank with me to keep my phone topped up i simply use this LINKY POO

I used to just stick the gas bottle in the bottom of my sleeping bag to keep it warm overnight

Also making sure you use a gas designed for cold use is supposed to make a bit of a difference.

I find its better heating a small amount of water in your kettle, and putting it in a bowl, then put ur gas canister in, does the same job.

Gerry (oldgeezer) posted a link to some usb cup warmers from eBay only £1 OR £2 each, which you can put inside your normal canister cover again does the same job as the ridge-monkey….

Ive never used the ridgemonkey jobbies, so cant really comment if they are any good.

As mentioned in another thread I recently converted over to gas this summer from unleaded. I’ve read the Coleman cans I’ve bought can be sluggish in the winter. Have been looking at gas canister covers to try and solve that and come across the Ridgemonkey heated cover.

Any users? Does it make a noticeable difference to the performance of your stove?
