Great news lads!! It’s gonna be fish frenzy soon (every day is a frenzy at the moment) but the catch reports are constant which is a good sign!
The only problem i have is I’m becoming an insomniac again as my mind is full of ideas and things I need to do!

I echo previous posts regarding the efficient service from Handcraft. The herb has already been good to me and my mates this year, and next week will be the first time we’ve taken it to France. Keep up the good work Gav you hero! 💪👌

The barbel boys have kept us busy this week 😂
It has become very popular with the river boys and I have high hopes for the opening week! It’s a race to see who will send in the first double and from what part of the country it comes from!

Better off soaking in another more attractive liquid. That’s one of the positives about our little pop ups, they will take on some nice things and still float. Betaine solution, minamino, squid sauce…..world is your oyster 😉
The carp will find your hookbait easily. Last summer I was catching lots from a silty spot on herb 15mm Wafters. They were bulk standard off the shelf Wafters, fished in silt that stained them grey but it was a productive spot for a few weeks. Even the lead and leader smelt awful but for some reason it was a good place to get a bite from. Not my first choice ideally but that’s where they were.
There has been a U.K. 51 sent in today that was caught on a single quid 12mm pop up on a chod over thick silt. It’s visual, it’s made from powders, hydros, flavours and the carp love them! But let me be clear here, the baits do everything I ask them to do but we as anglers need to get them into the right location every day! No hookbait will drag them from 20 acres away!

Wouldn't pre soaking them in lake water help prevent them taking on the fowl smelling stuff?

Hi mate, I think there are several options that are strong and there is something you can do to help repel it further.
Tutti, sting, pineapple, and deep c are pokey
Two dressings of the matching booster liquids over a two week period, that will be a strong old mix!
I often take the hookbaits off my rigs after 24 hours (if they haven’t produced anything 😂 crack them in half and do a sniff test! Because they are made with nice powders and liquids in the pop up basemix, they always smell nice in the core!
One other thing
Goo……..some of them are really strong and will do the same thing. I am very nervous about very strong overpowering hookbaits at this stage of the season and I’m very aware that no matter what we smell, the carp can sense your hookbaits even among the horrible lake bed!!
Loading up pop ups with liquids is the best way to stop them taking on foul lake water.
Two coats and then dry them out.

Hi Gav, What pop-up from your range would you recommend for silt, eg less likely to get tainted by the smell of the silt?

It’s funny how the catch reports follow certain trends but the sting is popular (Herb is constantly popular 😂
I had a message on Friday from one of the biggest names in angling saying that he uses or tips every hookbait with sting and he has having it off big style! I’m having good results on the deep c at the moment and the only bite this weekend was on the deep c pop up…….the bugger fell off 😂
