AHH good I was thinking he meant t'other one "dahn sarf". Jimmy's is quite a bit nearer for me, if you can put up with a Yorkie.

Havent bothered to read all the posts just skimmed a few pages of them, and must say I havent had any bother in nearly 40 years of night fishing. EXCEPT one night, when fishing a small syndicate lake back in '87 . I remember as it was just before the night of the big storm back then.
Anyway the water in question, (an old brick pit), is in a mature bit of forest, and like most such places doesnt get a lot of light at night even with a full moon. But its never bothered me, or it didnt till this one night, when I was awoken by something apparently pushing through the undergrowth behind my bivvy.
Since I had got full night vision by that time, (I do a lot of water watching on late Spring or Summer nights, to help with fish location), so I didnt turn on my torch, but rose and stood quietly with my back against the tree next to the bivvy and waited.
I didnt have to wait long before I relised that whatever it was was passing from my left across to my right, but I couldnt see a thing.
Just as I was about to turn on my torch and destroy my night vision something screamed, and I mean screamed! Then not 20 feet from me whatever it was crashed away deeper in to the forest leaving me shaking like a leaf.
This was my first aquaintance with a randy Vixen that was to turn up at the back of the lake quite regularly over the next few years, probably due to the proximity to a large area of Rabbit warren hidden in the brambles to the left of my swim.
Sorry its not more gripping lads, but I am sure that such screams are the origin of many a ghost story told by city folk in times past.

I'm one of the old fogeys that turn out their own baits rather than buy them ready made, and a quick check has shown that they can work out at under £2.50 per kg of dry mix. Chuck in 9 eggs per kg (Farm Foods per pack of 15), and a little Cod Liver Oil (Tesco's), and that gives around £3.54 per kilo.
However that is dry weight, a kilo of dry mix yields quite a lot more than a kilo of baits, more like 25% more due to the weight of the eggs, oil, and the water that the baits absorb during the boiling process. So that means you can knock up a kilo of reasonable Fishmeal baits for around £2.70 per kilo, and as the advert goes, the feeling you get from using your own baits..... "priceless".

If you are using a good Pigeon Conditioner there wont be any maize in it, (try Bucktons), so if you boil it for that long you will turn a good many of the small seeds to mush. We are only talking match head size seeds here after all.
Simply cover your Conditioner with boiling water, snap on the bucket lid, and the next morning you will have a beautifully prepared Particle mix.
Add Salt or sugar after you have prepared your seeds.

I'm suffering with the "new venue" syndrome. In other words I'm mostly blanking whilst I learn the tricks of the trade on this one. So nothing to report, appart from the fact that I am developing a loathing of our feathered chums that goes well beyond the rational.
I think I may have to resort either to buying night vision goggles so I can bait up in the pitch dark, or save up and only fish on Fishabil, (80 odd acres and no birds).

This reminds me of the hysteria over the use of Peanuts back in the day. Same "thought police" attitude got a perfectly good bait banned all up and down the country. I do hope this well informed and illustrated piece gets the response that it deserves, and the nonsense about the sacking of Carp is consigned to the scrapheap soon.
