So I'm about to pull the plug on a 230 boat and I'm very new to it all, so would like help choosing a reasonably priced outboard and battery if anyone has any info or recommendations it would be great!

I recent got a 2.4m and I bought a 40lb bison motor and 100Ah ecoworthy lithium.

Nothing to compare it to but both were at the reasonably priced end of the market.

Used for a week in France baiting up, landing fish and placing rigs. And of course scouring the lake in the first day. Didn't need to charge the battery. Plenty powerful enough. Even had 3 of us in the boat at one point for a laugh

On my 230 boat I have a Minn Kota 30lb and its perfect unless your going to use it on a river as its nice and light to carry and very good on battery and certainly plenty of power
if you can afford the expensive lithium battery that are amazing ?

if not Then I would go for 2 x Leisure Batteries 75ah/85ah you can get a pair for around £100 and I used to use one and the other stayed on a solar panel

I did loads of trips of a few weeks without any problems the trouble with a big single lead acid is the tremendous weight
and the time it takes to recharge it
you can end up with muscles like hercules or bollix like a camel !!

Thinking of getting the 30lb minn kota for my 160

I've had a 55lbs Bison motor and a couple of leisure batteries for a few years now and they've been flawless. I have them on an 11ft Newbourne Sniper, which isn't a light boat, and even when loaded high with tree cuttings I hardly ever come out of speed one for pottering around. Used like that a battery will last ages. Start charging about at higher speed/power and battery life is way, way less. Sort of obvious, but worth thinking about in actual use.

Perfect size right choice IMO for that size boat

I'm using a 55 lbs on my 245 witch works nice on big pits when the wind picks up

If the water you plan to fish is weedy I would go for a 55lb for a bit more grunt. You can rip through surface weed if you need to and the MK weedless props are magic. If you don't want to spend MK money on a 55 then you can bodge the prop onto a bison as they are pretty much a direct rip off of the Endura.
