Pope's day out didn't last long, easy win tho.
Why play a limited overs tournament while all of the decent players are signed up for the undred? Is 50 over cricket dying now too?
Difficult day for England, need Jimmy to nick a couple with the new ball tonight

If its been relegated to an academy level competition they should at least make it useful, use the pink ball and grow a crop of players used to dominating bowlers with a ball thats swinging and nipping about up top, and softening up and reversing late on.
I'd do a few day-night matches at the oval watching that

Another stunning knock by Root with a little bit more support from Bairstow, Buttler and Moeen but his innngs deserved more than 27 lead imo. Just need to bowl in the right areas now. Rahul just gone 18-1.

Nicely poised game
But why, even with 25 overs of spin can't they bowl all 90
If the grounds had to refund lost overs it'd be sorted quickly

Yes as you say nicely poised.
Over rates are dreadful about time they done something about it. Bumble would be pleased.

Well played India you never give up.
England's tactics when India was 8 down was crap so many men on the boundary ffs.
Attack and pitch the ball up on the stumps.

I don't have words to describe that performance. I feel so sorry for Joe and Jimmy, who both played a blinder for four days, but who, along with the rest of the eleven (and the dressing room) lost the plot badly. Furthermore, I don't think England can recover from this thrashing, which does not bode well for the Ashes series. To allow themselves to be wound up like a spring like that was inexcusable.
Looking ahead to Leeds, I think England have got a reasonable bowling attack, but the top order needs some serious work done on it.

The middle order has been no better.
Another duck for pope today, there are 20 players who should be ahead of him right now but no doubt he'll play the next test.
Malan or vince at 3 (dropping sibley) buttler needs a breather too

Don't worry The Hundred will sort it.
Agree with Buttler give Bairstow the gloves for now.
Sibley should go.
Burns just looks so awkward but he batted well in 1st innings.
Hameed stays for me.
Agree with Pope it's alright if other batsmen are scoring to be able to nuture him but they aren't so maybe Vince and Malan can come in. Seeing that Silverwood is the selector now his job is on the line.
Thing is have we got the players in the county game to stand up to this superb Indian pace attack.
Ken you may be right about the ashes if it goes ahead.

Burns has really struggled with sibley, he looks better when sibley goes early. That partnership isn't working.
I'm not sure it's an issue with personnel anymore, so many good players are failing constantly, looking totally devoid of confidence when the put the england cap on, I think you have to look beyond the batsmen, something else is going wrong.
As you say, silverwoods arse is on the line now
Roots captaincy should also be on the line, but nobody else is playing well enough to guarantee a place in the team let alone lead it

Maybe your right and there is something deeper but lets not take away the performance of the Indian bowlers.
Most of the balls that took wickets had to be played at but that is just one innings and this is been happening for a while now. Think the squad is announced today so see what Silverwood has got lined up now. Wonder if The Hundred finishing will have an effect on who is picked?

We need a Mike Bearley...remember the 1981 Ashes? Ian "We were going to sack him anyway" Botham. God, how I miss those days!

Sibley and Crawley out but Lawrence and Pope stay.
Just Malan in don't understand that give Vince another go and why not Livingstone.
I said at the start I think it's India's series and see nothing to change that.

remember the 1981 ashes
No, I wasn't born
It's quite amazing, really, vince and livingstone in great form and have been playing against quality bowling, pope meanwhile has scored no runs against club level attacks.
Throwing either of those lads back in would be damaging.
Same with hammeed, he's been useless for three years, had three good months and is thrown to the lions. A setback now could destroy him.
Those three guys aren't in a position to survive a sink or swim situation.
I'm actually pi55ed of with that selection.
Hopefully buttler keeps the gloves
If this is what silverwood is all about he can do one!
