Just to add to what Gerry has said re driver and sight seeing, not from Jurrasic but my experience. The 2nd time we went we were put onto a local by some American tourists, apparently he was well known in US travelling circles, back packers etc. Anyhow full day mini van, free water and go anywhere you want, can't rem the price but it was very reasonable.
We asked him to give us a idea of what's reasonable to expect to visit in a day and also to take us to some places tourists groups don't normally visit. More importantly he told us he'd take us in order of when he expected them to be less busy. You'll probably find him and the likes on FB. We did our little tour and at the end we were meant to be going to a little restaurant to eat as the sun went down sea view but we were too knackered, the ability to say just take us back was worth it.
Thailand tourist hot spots were always busy but now it's just ridiculous. If I were advising friends who'd never been there I'd say go as near to out of season or out of season, as its very quiet in comparison. For example we made the mistake of going to to Railay beach peak season peak time, I kid you not, there wasn't room for a towel, the entire water front was long boats making it difficult to swim and there was fuel in the water, not very nice af all. My friends just come back and he has a picture of him standing on it virtually empty, earlier in the morning granted.
Another option peak season , go out early before the tours get picked up.

yes the local driver we hired for the day ( blooming cheap too)
( Jurassic have a few commended locals ) had a new Honda and took us to all the top tourist spot`s and market`s and large shopping malls
and free ice cod water in the cars fridge too
and either waited in the car or came with us carrying a large parasol to shade us from the sun also worth mentioning is ask the driver to take you to restaurants where he would take his family for a special meal if you want to eat top Thai food and it will be a lot cheaper than the tourist stuff I can never understand people traveling thousands of miles to a different country and not eating the local food ? just eating the same stuff you would at home ??? what a wasted opportunity

I'm with you there Gerry
The 1st time we went to Thailand I think we spent 10 of 14 days on tours, the thought being we might not go back...how little did we know how deeply the bug would bite! I'd never go on a organised tour again compared to using a private driver for the day, I like getting to know the drivers and the fact most of the money is going to them.

Two friends have just got back two weeks ago from a month out there. They had a week or so on Jurrasic, Exotic and Gilhams.
Their consensus was that Exotic was the by far the best of the 3.
Gilham's is pretty much Siamese carp only, or that is what tjey prefer you to fish for. The big Harry Palmer's are long gone with Exotic the one if you want one of them.

Sorry for late reply on this.
We have just booked for April next year. Going to be there for the Thai new year as well so should be fun.
Booked 6 days on Jurassic lake specimen and also a day on the new salt water lake.
As many have said i have also planned 4 days either side for some site seeing etc.

I might be there myself around that time. My Mrs will kill me if she reads this but I can never remember our wedding anniversary date, it's either the 19th or 25th, or both
We got legally married in Bangkok but had the Thai/Buddhist ceremony a week later in Phuket, next years our 20th. I say it's the 19th, she prefers the 25th, suppose it's good enough reason to commiserate twice I don't think she wants to remember the registary office as we were both hung over after a 'lock in' at the Rock Club!

I haven't had approval yet to go fishing, so might just be island hopping and drinking cocktails out of plastic bags 😂😂 👍.
