Yeah I've heard a few similar stories. Well maybe not a pallet full, but a lot of bait going in to the annoyance of the other anglers.

undoubtedly a very very good angler, but there is no substitute for time in carp fishing..I know he's still got to catch them but with more hours than most of us put together he's bound to trip a few up along the way.

There's a hell of a lot of anglers with a lot of time that won't have caught anywhere near Jim's portfolio.

You could say that about all the professional anglers but they wouldn't be professional anglers in the first place if they didn't catch a lot of fish and stand out from the rest of the crowd. And if he wasn't exceptional at what he does he wouldn't have caught pretty much all of the top known fish that are around. Many people fish for years to catch just one fish whereas he has proven himself to have caught a lot of fish from those waters over the same period of time.

don't get me wrong,I'm not slagging him off, and like you say he wouldn't have git to where he was without catching a few !!!! maybe a bit of the green eyed monster from myself with regards to my lack of time available!!! for sure he catches them all.

Oh believe me I wish I had a lot more time, here in Toronto we get just 5 months of fishing weather and I only managed 5 days of fishing this year because of various family commitments so I get the green eyed monster in the winter for all of you guys over there being able to fish year round.
I used to fish every Friday lunchtime to Saturday night every week no matter what when I lived over there. and always had a week of vacation on the bank.

Agree
Time is by far the biggest advantage to any angler because you can't catch them when you are at work, home or doing family things
He will have sacrificed a lot of the above to be there but he is also an exceptional angler and that is the real difference between him and a camper, just scrapping a few

Time is a carpers friend. Most will catch fishing 5 days a week. He was talking of sessions of 60 day's plus. Not someone I'd want to be fishing against. Not just because he's a time bandit, but the strokes he pulls like soaping swims, filling in multiple areas with his free bait etc. Surprised he's not had a bit of a talking to to be fair.

I think he has calmed down a bit as he has got older. He's a deadly combination of masses of time and a ruthless streak. Not many have got one of those attributes, let alone both. He has caught them all....not made so many friends along the way but he's right at the top.

Considering he couldn't read or write and he has had health issues with his wife(think I'm right)he's still a catching machine

Though to be fair pretty much all of the top anglers from (what I consider to be) the golden era were all pulling strokes and if you weren't you were at a big disadvantage. You only have to read some of the books to know that. I think because he has always be a no BS out spoken guy it seems like he's worse than the others lol.

Not sure about that personally. Being refused tickets for places so just cutting down fences and fishing them anyway, poaching fish from no fishing waters and moving them into places he can fish so he can publicise them, rocking up, casting straight across other anglers swims to get to "his" spots and then threatening physical violence when challenged seem quite a bit further than most would go to me.

I can't personally attest to how true all of those things are, I do know that many green eyed monsters have come out with a lot of things that aren't true to make him look bad because they haven't been doing as well as him and they want to justify why. Anyway either way he seems to be a lot less of an issue to people these days.
