I Swapped some washers among my reels to tune the clutch to taste, I currently have two felt washers in my spools and the emblem washers in different reels.

Tournys have the little roller on the stem which kicks the bail over if you wish Heff, can't say I've ever used that function on them though as its clunky and a bit brutal at best

Cheers mate. Think i have always just done it manually, after feeling the lead down, without even thinking about it. Just read the question and realised i actually didnt know one way or the other

Just had a look on the QDM drag knob on the German site, very interesting. I have been using Shimano ultegra 12000XTA's for about 14 years. So it was time for a change.
Think more range on the drag will be an improvement, although I have not used my new emblems yet.
Do we know what the physical difference is between the QD & QDM ?

It'll compress under pressure whereas the standard one won't. The caps from a lot of other daiwa reels fit them if you're in a hurry to change it, alternatively you can swap the spool washers for felt ones to tune it to taste

Thanks Duggs. No hurry. I usually get to France Twice a year, bought the emblems for those trips. They are currently in the loft on my rods but not spooled up. I will explore the washer option.
I also wonder why Daiwa supplied a massive capacity spare spool on a reel marketed as a casting reel. I know all bases have to be covered but I will need 1000m of backing line lol. I do like the feel of the reels and at 615gm they are considerably lighter than the Ultegras.

Did you remove all five original washers and replace with two felt washers or just the top two original washers ?

If you remove all 5 washers and just replace with 2 felt then there will be a lot of float between the top washer and retaining clip.
i would recommend keeping all 10 washers in the spool if you want to alter speed to your preference then swap out your required number of non compression for felt washer that could be 1,2,3 etc its easy to do and check by trial and error

I Swapped 2 of the rough red washers for felt ones, as woody said, it's easy to do and test until you find the combination that works for you.
At one point I had (non qd) entoh caps and had Swapped all the red washers for felt. That gave me the drag I'm used to but I decided to speed it up quite a bit. It's a fair bit slower than standard tho

There are some on ebay, I think you can get them from daiwa too. I just Swapped them from my entohs and emblem spod, it actually improved both sets of reels in the process imo.
I didn't have any dedicated drag oil so I just used the sewing machine oil I use for centrepins

Would like to say a big thank you to all who.. replied to my question manual bail arm, been InTouch with Daiwa, they confirmed the Daiwa Emblem 45 SCW QD Reels do have a manual bail arm.
I would take that goes with there higher brand reels also..
