What a cruel way for Butler to get out after such a brilliantly defiant innings. 2-o down but remember Headingley 1981? We need Stokes to do a Botham, faint hope I know, but it's a funny old game, cricket.

Buttler showed discipline for a change.
Stokes isn't fully fit and i can't see anything other than an Aussie win.

They owe me 30 hours sleep!

Same problems as ever, bowlers taking 4 innings to find the right length, batsmen not scoring enough, too many dropped catches, poor captaincy releasing pressure in the field.
If burns stays in the team he needs to find a new position in the field,(I suspect Crawley will come in tho) and bairstow will probably come in for pope, maybe taking the gloves.
Stokes is a great player, but bowling on one leg and batting like a bloke who hasn't played for 6 months isn't having the effect we need from him.

Well i called a 5-0 whitewash in OZ after 2019, been calling it ever since and now im sat here smug as **** laughing my head off at all the idiot England fans who thought this side would compete.

I sat through the nineties, so i know exactly what **** cricket looks like, but even Hussein wasn't as bad a captain as Root is. Root is totally clueless, he is meek, mild, wont change and adapt a plan according to situations, and when he does get passionate he calls out the bowlers and protects the batsMEN, (not person).

This batting lineup has been awful for years, even in 2019 it was bloody awful. All that happened in 2019 was Stokes heroics and an Australia team still rebuilding after the chaos of the past few years. Well now Australia have rebuilt, they're at home and we all know what to expect from Australia at home, well apart from Root who obviously never watched any footage of prior series.

After the 90s we rebuilt and did amazingly, will we do the same now? No, categorically no. The landscape in English cricket has changed totally and those that run the ECB are only interested in £ signs. The promotion of white ball cricket has come at the expense of red ball cricket and now with the ECB only chasing £ from kids buying shirts of their favourite hundred team, red ball cricket is dead.

The county championship has been shifted to the worst parts of the season for weather to make room for T20, Royal London and The bull****, (hundred). Due to underfunding there is such a gap between the County Championship and international level its impossible for County players to successfully transfer to international cricket.

This series should see the death of Root as captain and Silverwood as coach. However, unless it sees the head of Giles roll and most of the others at the top of the ECB, allowing a full red ball focussed reconstruction, England will be relegated to a minor red ball side internationally within 10 years. That will give the ECB the ability to scrap red ball cricket and focus on money money money.

Rant over. Back to fawning over my bullseye bet on 5-0 Australia

Totally agree but sadly society of today is all about money.
Championship cricket brings in a few hundred supporters whereas white ball especially the shorter formats brings in tens of thousands so its a no brainer that these get the best weather.
I grew up in the 60s/70's so i too think that the Test arena is the pinnacle of cricket even though at club level we were
playing 20 over cricket years before the professional game.
But once that started with the money generated players wages rose just like it did with the Premier league in football
but to sustain it they have to fill the grounds more often and that is why Champioship is stuck at both ends of the season.

How many former players are on the ECB board or are they all businessmen?

Other countries also have this problem but they're players adapt although they don't have two comps unlike the ECB.

Just watching SA v India opening patnership over a 100 good to watch.

I believe we have some decent players but need coaching with discipline and a decent Captain.

As for your 5-0 i'm surprised they haven't paid up already.

In a nutshell Sadly the limited over games take priority over the test side and our current test players seem to think they are in a limited overs match every time they take a guard, and the idea of getting in and then building an innings is anathema to the batsmen.

Unplayable bowling at times from the Aussies. Jimmy, as ever, did very well...shame about the rest of them!
