Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a cool but cozy sleeping bag for those hot Croatian summer nights where the temperature is between 20 and 27°C. I've tried a fleece blanket and a bedchair cover, but I really don't like lying on my Solar SP C-Tech bedchair without anything on it - I find it to be very itchy and scratchy (other than that it's great). So if anyone has a recommendation for a cool sleeping bag with good zips (and preferrably fleece inside), I'd be eternally grateful .

I use a JRC defender bag for the summer
It's light and compact mine is sooth lined but I think they do a fleecy version
Price is good too 👍

I've just given my friend a virtually new Snugpak jungle bag which he used in Ben il oudine ,or what's it called !

They are compact ,come with mozzy mesh built in and well made,they not fleece ,which although personal preference, I'd think to avoid in a hot climate..

I'd also recommend a Snugpak, softie nine ,packs up small,light and warm in variable climate,...I never zip either of the Snugpak up..

Basically, have a look at Snugpak bags. 👍

This is my "go-to" for the summer
Will usually have bedchair cover on the bedchair also. Plenty good enough.

I use a bedchair cover / blanket and a cotton single bed fitted sheet over the bedchair, paid less than a tenner for the sheet and find it well worth it

I use a single thin mattress protector a fitted sheet and an old bed chair cover.

I have a cotton sheet on the bottom and my edel mayer quilted bedchair cover on top, this suits me for the summer months.

I normally use a bedchair cover and lie on the bag. The Mrs used a 3.5tog super king duvet folded in half last time, it was better than my combo, much more breathable.. Zipped in a bag in summer, no thanks, horrible thought.

British army jungle bag, cheap and excellent in warm climates.

for the versatile Jungle bag it unzips to make a blanket if you want prices vary so shop around
its like this its the latest 2023 one.................... the older ones are cheaper

Should work for slimmer bedchairs. When my kid broke his leg
He was on the wideboy for.months with a cotton sheet and a duvet.

Go on Ebay and look up "British Army Jungle Sleeping Bag", cheap as chips. Use it as a sleeping bag or a blanket. Also a "Poncho Liner" used as a blanket is good to use as well. I use either. A benefit of having something you can use as a banket, you can wrap it round yourself like a shawl to use on a Summers evening to sit outside the bivvy when it gets a bit chilly.

But a problem with a "Blanket" is, if there is a lot of insects that love to dine on your blood on a night, they will get to you under the blanket and up your trouser legs unless you tuck them into your socks and and also up your sleeves etc, so that is when a "sleeping bag" is more beneficial and even better if you get a "Jungle bag" with a sewn in mozzie net like the Snugpak which I also use on rare ocassions if the need is great but when it is very hot, either "Jungle bag" will become a bit too hot to sleep in especially if you have been sat out in the Sun all day and caught a "bit of the Sun". So it becomes a case of would you rather cook yourself to death inside the bag or be eaten to death underneath the bag.

Having spent months in Croatia and Bosnia etc with the army in the "Highs of Summer", on a night, even an army white cotton sheet can be too warm.

When I went to Lake Bin el Ouidane in Morocco carp fishing I took a Trakker snooze light bag FOOK knows why Trakker stopped selling it ?
there is a big gap in the market for something like this IMO think it was £29 when it was sold

I missed that Mark but having checked it out looks a brilliant summer bag that you can also use when its a cooler late summer too

Thanks everybody for your ideas . Unfortunately getting a Snugpak or British Army Jungle Sleeping Bag off eBay is quite expensive thanks to Brexit and shipping costs (the Snugpak one ending up at more than 1.5 times the price, the BAJSB even at triple the price), which is a shame, I really like the Snugpak. I guess I'll try to get my hands on either the JRC Defender and/or the JRC Rova (both in wide/fleece) which would be a good fit, as my sleeping bag cover is also a JRC Rova.

Jrc seem to be a forgotten brand now, they were highly thought of in the nineties weren't they? Cocoon bed chair was the dogs.
Still use their bivvy now, decent gear I think.

True. All of my early carp fishing stuff was from JRC, Wychwood, Chub and Fox. I still have a Fox rucksack from 1997, it basically still looks like new although it must have spent 100s of nights outside in rain, snow and mud.

I got the JRC one mentioned below but found it to be very tight around the feet ( I have size 12) so ended up getting rid of that and getting a Whychwood tactical which was I think 2 season? Very similar to jrc bag in terms of summer use but just a little more room.

I've still got my Snoozelite. Perfect for June til September

I have also been looking for a very light summer bag but I can't seem to find a proper fishing one on the cheap.
I might have considered an ex issue jungle bag but I'd need to see one to be sure.
Also, they all seem to be right sided zips only so that's no good.
I think I'm going to use a teddy bear fleece throw as a very light blanket, and can also use my old trakker bed chair cover if I need to wrap up a bit more.
I will sew on a couple of pieces of paracord as ties so if I have to jump out of the bedchair I won't be dragging the fleece cover with me!
