My soon to be 10 year old wants his own set up and I have no idea where to begin when it comes to Rod & Reel.....
Having spent a few years tagging along he wants to be able to do it himself, he's attempted casting/reeling in on the 12ft but clearly it's too big and the reel is too heavy.
Anyone got a recommendation? Would a 10ft rod and reel combo work? In my head the Nash sawn offs perhaps?

What sort of budget are you looking at for rods and reels?
I'd give tackle box a ring,they do loads of rod and reel combo deals on their darent valley brand and will probably give you good advice on options.

I bought my son a pair of 8ft 2.75 ESP stalkers coupled with Ss2600, they lovely rods and use them myself for a small club lake i fish.

Don't really have a set budget, obviously don't want to spend a fortune though. Just looking for a two red set up really but stumped on the rods, he's only 10 and will probably go a handful of times a year.

You wouldn't go too far wrong with some 9ft sonik xtractors and a half decent set of baitrunner type reels. I'd say a baitrunner probably better for a beginner as they only need to turn the handle to engage the drag, rather than Faffinng ablut with a front drag. Okuma reels would be a good place to start if you don't want to break the bank, or second hand shimano.

Have a look at the avid revolve 10' 3lb £40 ISH and pair with something like a 6000 size okuma ak bait runner.. again around £40.

Take a look at the sonik 9-10ft rods, saw them at the big one last year and was impressed of how they looked, felt.. for the price a great starter/spare rod.
Also the Nash dwarf range offer good value. Even more so with the new range coming out
