Bit random but are there any rod builders on here that could tell me if constantly having the rod tips under the water softens or damages the rods long term? It was just a thought as i fished a winter water that has alot of jet ski and boat traffic. I saw a rod on a lake bed in France after a drain down that split when squeezed. Granted it was completely submerged for a long time.

carbon is hydrophobic, but the resins are not. they can absorb up to around 5% in moisture. after prolonged submersion and the water going in between the laminated layers its very likely the rod will soften or possibly even delaminate. the resin on the whippings would show signs of long-term water ingress well before the blank is affected in anyway or form.

A good layer of varnish would help that.
