One for you hobbyists out there: I've got a heavy sea jigging rod, surely made in China and he guides are utter dog***** so I intend to replace them. Now, I haven't rung a rod for 40 years but nothing ventured etc, I can do it again.
The thing is, the crappy original guides were slathered in epoxy resin that is caked on and proving difficult to shift. I've used a bare flame but am wary of damaging the blank. YouTube hasn't offered much thus far so I thought I'd throw it out here to see if anyone else had been there and done that.

am a hobbyist so have learnt myself but I heat the thread where it cover the foot of the ring & then cut the thread / resin along the foot so the blade won't touch the rod if I push too hard.

I like to use a simple clipper lighter (no crazy flames) for the heating & move it around a bit. I found that I only needed to heat one side to cut the thread - as soon as you are through & can get something to grip, the other bits should come off easily.

I really like The Fishing Hobby youtube channel for instructional stuff - once you get past the accent, he's easy to follow & has some great tips.
