Can anyone let me know what the action is like on the original Daiwa Infinity X rods please? I'm a big fan of the older Infinity Magnum Taper rods but wondered how the action on the original Infinity X compares to those.

Same blank, different components, different TC. X was available in 2.75 and 3.5lb TC. MT replaced the 3.5TC with a 3.25 and 3.75TC offering.

My Magnum taper 3.25 tc are pretty much the same as my old 3.5lb infinity rods. That includes the crap varnish

Agree about the varnish, also I've had three different models of infinities and the spigots have all become loose, not had that happen on any other rods like that

Yeah its well known the varnish was sub standard (seymo i believe ) yellows and peels if you look at it.

Thanks all. As I have the MT's in 2.75 and 3.25 there seems no point in getting a set of X's if they are essentially the same as the MT. You are right about the laquer on them too which is just so poor for what were top end rods. I am thinking of getting mine stripped and re-varnished as they are great rods and I love the high stand off guides that Daiwa used👍

The infinity x was a faster taper blank than the magnum taper , it's a thicker butt section. I wish Diawa had kept to the original. They did have a 2.25 tc . I should think they are the infinity barbel rods now.

The 3.5tc Infinity X was a great distance casting rod back in the day, regret selling mine a few years ago now. But the varnish just seemed to burn off the top of the rods in the sun so looked tatty after 6 months. Great rods though!

I owned the 3.25tc Gold MT's (original) and the Infinity X's 2.75 at the same time.
They felt different to me, I thought the X's seem to have a faster taper and felt a lot crisper. The 2.75 X's dealt with heavy leads better too.
More than just a test curve difference.
I preferred the X LD's and sold the MT's.

Do you still rate the original 3.5 ld infinity when compared to more modern rods? i have 3 of the trevs version with the old fuji oxide guides and without the horrible black varnish that the factory rods had that have seen very little use with the spigots hardly worn.
I have been toying with the idea of getting them rebuilt for when i need a bit more distance and i think the reel seats would also need moving further up the blank as the handles on the trevs rods were very short
