Over the last 15 years I have had;
Daiwa Basias - Changed to Shim 12000 XTB and now looking to going back to Daiwa (much preferred to the Shim)
With the price difference of a 23- 45 Emblem QD SCW vs the Basia version, i can see a 100g difference and obviously the price.
Anybody have an opinion on which of these two you would have? Jut being a yorkshireman and saving some pennies - unless there is enough bias to go for the Basia 45 SCW.

I think the basia sld is considered the best basia model from what ive read on here from people who have had them all. And is a bit cheaper than the latest basia so may save some money there.
I have the slds, and had the previous basias, never owned the newer 2 models though to compare. The slds are a lovely reel, however are a luxury item, and lets be honest, not worth what they charge, but that would apply to most items of carp fishing tackle in reality.
Not used the cheaper newer models, emblems etc but i doubt very much there would be any noticeable difference to the basias, and if the basia for whatever reason left me, id probably not replace them, and would just go for the emblems, or the whisker 45s.

I've had the 19scw,the 20scw mag-sealed and the sld.The sld is the one imo,felt stronger and smoother than the other two models

I see quiet a few emblem scws with wormshft faliures unfortunately and the part is not particularly cheap at approx £45 as the wormshaft drive gear is an integral part of it unfortunately. The line guards can also be problematic as they have a tendency to pop out of the guide runners on the rotor which is a real shame as they're lovely reels other than that.At the other end of the scale I've done a lot of slds and they are truly superb, I've only ever had one with a problem which was a cracked rotor where the previous service had overtightened it which caused it under load to rotate on the pinion gear but that was user/service agent fault. The newer mag sealed basias are lovely reels but for peace of mind need sending to daiwa periodically for the service due to the ferro fluid used to create the mag seal, this has a limited life and can cause massive problems when it does come to the end of its usable life

Glad you posted mate. Couldnt remember your username after we spoke last winter. Still need to pop my slds in to you for a quick service. Definitely need it done this year. They have been out in all sorts, mainly rain on dusty banks, and dipped in the lake a few more times now
