I'm looking for a float rod to fish a snaggy lake and browsing the second hand market I came across a Free Spirit 13ft Hi-S Special Power Float rod. I know the Hi-S are very good and popular as “static” rods, but can't find great info about this float road they do. Anyone has experience with it and can recommend for or against it?

I have one but would hesitate to use it in a snaggy lake, are you targeting carp, if so, what size ? The Drennan Super Tench float was a cracker but even then, I'd avoid near snags, they're good but not that suitable.
Why not use a 2lb tc rod in 13' if such a thing still exists, perhaps a barbel rod ?

Thanks! Carp go up to mid 30's and when I say snaggy I don't mean the bottom per se but mostly my intention to fish the float against some trees and bushes that have fallen into the water. So the need is some power to block and steer away from them after hooking a fish.
I couldn't find test curve for that FS rod, but from what you're saying I assume it's not above 1.5 or 1.75 lb? Is it way less than that would you say?

I don't know the tc but I would guess its around 1lb, maybe 1 25, I would never think of using it to turn a large fish from a tree snag. I think Daiwa did do powermesh models in 2lb and 13ft but they're out of production now.
As long as you don't need to cast far then any soft actioned carp rod will do what you need.

You wont pull a 30lb carp from snags with a float rod .baby ballista 2.5 will do the job.Or 12ft torrix 2.25. Lots of rods/blanks about to be honest .

I still would,nt use that up against snags and especially not for carp that size more of a barbel rod in my opinion.

Got it, thanks for the replies guys. One thing I wonder is how those rods like baby ballista or torrix 2.25 behave when fishing a float. I'm used to float rods having much more and smaller eyes on the blank. Maybe a rod like that with enough power just doesn't exist.

I build my dedicated float rods with more eyes on those blanks and you would stop a train with them if i were you id look at the chimeras 👍
