I'm fishing a lake that's heavily weeded so I've used a rake to clear a patch. In all the weed I've taken out I'm struggling to find any natural food. No snails or bugs etc. It seems to be healthy canadian weed and the fish are certainly healthy but I'm puzzled why there's not much aquatic life?

Yeah I know

The weed itself is healthy

The carp are healthy

But bugs there are few ?

It does teem with roach but I cant imagine they've eaten everything

Same on my lake: not Canadian but v weedy. Iv not pulled in any naturals. Went to thorney nearly a year ago and the weed was quite literally alive

A couple of thoughts. The substrate of the lake might not be the best for insects but normally there will be patches were it will be good for them and if you pull some weed for those areas you will probably find them.

You say the lake is teaming with roach, I was watching the matrix underwater video with Jamie hughes and was shocked to see the size of shoals of rudd and think you only need a few of them to decimate any insect populations
