Hello ,
Can anyone shed light on the north lagoon , not asking for secrets just want to get a rough idea off stock and some general information as it looks a lovely place and now have a ticket.
I know fish can move from the south/centre into the north but can they get back out the north once in ? can they get out off the top and into the river ?
i just want to know what I am dealing with i.e stock , logistics and general info

About 200 carp in the North , it's not easy or for the faint hearted. North lagoon upto 40s , Center and South Lagoon up to 50s.
Anything else you need to know.?

200 fish in the North?! A lot less than that..........very tricky lake.

Thanks , i thought the stock was alot less !
what about the movement , once they are in from the centre lagoon can they pass back trough or are they stuck in the north ?

I know it v well.
Regarding fish moving through the sluices: yes fish go south every winter. Most of the Langy fish are from Nazeing. We do get a few new ones from the river. Along with chub, trout & barbel.

Estimates for fish numbers are around 150-170, however there are almost certainly more that we don't have catch records of.

Thank , i have seen this however i do know that the website isnt very accurate as i have fished over waters in the valley and it doesn't match up with what's said lol

Jamie from Aquamaintain shared his stocking records with me. He's put well over 100 fish in going back to the days he worked for the Park. Plus there is a good shoal of small commons (less than 10lbs). Which either came in from the river or, as I believe, came from a very successful spawning in 2020.
However only about 50 good fish seem to get caught. Either more go South than is expected or 3/4 of the carp never get caught or seen, which given the nature of the lake is a possibility. Bear in mind the sluice gates are open for months most winters and then due to the flow it's one way traffic. Farmed carp are not salmon.
It is a difficult lake. Only a very few anglers catch with regularity. Even then one of the most successful anglers on there has just had his first fish since last summer and he fished all through the winter!
One guy went 5 years between catches. Don't make the mistake of thinking it's like the centre/south lagoons. They are easy in comparison. Certainly a lot more fish to go for.

There was carp in the North when I first started carp fishing back in the early 80s , we used to fish the lagoons for pike when it was a Leisure Sports venue , spent a two week session on Brackens pool (Kodak) had six runs in this time , that was good going as that's not easy either.
