Just wondered people opinions on minimum consistency in terms of ratio of liquid egg / dry ingredients..?

I have a fish meal bait I'm test rolling, just trying to dial into optimum consistency really before I order a big batch for producing for the coming season..

I did a mix today that was a bit sticky , left some residue on boilie table etc.. it wasn't terrible - rolled ok , I calculated the liquid egg/ and liquid booster at 320ml , and the dry ingredients at 450grams ( loosely 6 eggs to 450g ) that's a ratio 1.4 : 1 .... It's made approximately 700g of boilies and my gun ( roughneck ) luckily is quite large and can hold the full mix in one load..

So how much more dry mix do you think I need to add to lose that slightly tacky feel , another 20g of dry mix ...

Is there any disadvantages of having an eggy mix ? It was noticeable how easy it was to squeeze out the gun compared to previous batches? If I roll alot firmer my hand packs up, whereas I feel like I coulda pulled the trigger all day on the mix I had on today..

A difficult one. I PREFER THE LIQUID WEIGHT TO BASE MIX POWDER USED METHOD, Rather than volume. weigh the flavours, oils, hydros liquids, plus eggs in a zeroed jug on accurate digital scales, for more detailed consistancy.

It is all trial & error with our individual mix/mixes, TBH.
Like you have done - keep your base mix ingredients, and liquid attractor package the same.
You get the feel of the mix through practise.

Get it into a paste ball and poly bag it, air out and twisted for 10 to 20 mins, or your bait gun, and time it before you extract it.
Sometimes, you just need to allow to sit and soak and absorb the liquids into the powders a bit more to be more manageable upon pumping out onto the rolling tables.

Even if you were using fresh eggs and not wep (whole egg powder) you would add a bit more dry mix to stop it being sticky.
So the same is true of using the wep, then just note down your figures for next time.
The better wep has more protein (albumen) so will give better results.
Obviously, a stiffer mix will be less sticky, but also harder to gun out.
I much prefer a stiffer mix, the finished bait is less spongey and doesn't go "soft" when it absorbs some water.

Yeh spongy boilies are likely to fall prey to nuisance fish quicker too and also wash out faster, which may not be a bad thing I suppose
Are you sure?

This action cannot be undone.
