Morning all
In a similar vein to Oldgeezers post, this weekend I had my first time on the bank in 5 years.
My absence was mainly down to having a child at the ripe old age of 49 and a few health issues for him and me over the past half decade that required us to within a hour of a hospital at any time.
However, time has been fairly kind to us both, my little boy is the picture of health now and my own issues have been dealt with up to a point, so I was able to get two nights at Elsons Lakes @ Stanwick over the weekend.
And my god, I've missed being at the side of the water, having to remind myself how to set up, how to find a spot, how to bait up, how to cast (being the main one!!) and the anticipation of whether I would catch adding to the excitement/experience.
I didn't catch anything (unless you count the trees above the swim, in which case I outperformed my expectations!!) but I didn't mind. The feeling I got watching the water at dusk on my last night was better than any medication I've taken and was simply amazing.
My little boy, now 3, has taken an interest already. We popped into a local Angling Direct store on Saturday and they were running a promotion that resulting in him getting a small whip and float setup, he didn't want to wait until I took him out and ran over to the display chairs and started fishing with his pole, still in the wrapping. Then grabbed a small fish from the lures section and proudly shown everyone that would listen what he'd caught.
I love this sport, and whilst I may not get out as much as I used to, I feel lucky that I can call myself a fisherman a few times a year.

That is lovely to read, the fact you are both OK but also the memories you can make with your son.The times on the bank with my kids I will always treasure especially now they are teenagers and wanting to be out with mates,we still get out though and I love it.I just sit and watch my daughter and step son helping eachother and talking about nonsense,I'm so glad I can still do after I had an illness a couple of years ago.I hope you manage to get out more with your son and that you both stay healthy
