I've moved away from buying pre made boilies and moved to diy bait buying base mixes and making my own freebies and hookbaits. Immediately it has started to produce so I'm going to stay on this path.

I'd agree, if matched with a little knowledge and willingness to learn ☺️

You have quality control over everything.
Personal Confidence rising as a result, a fresh bait, well made will always be one less thing to worry about once your on feeding fish

I used to make my own baits when I first started fishing mainly to save money. I didn't have a clue what I was doing it was literally 50/50 base mix and then monster crab flavouring.
I always used to add probably 10 or 20 times the amount of monster crab I should have thinking they didn't smell strong enough. They were absolutely shocking but still caught fish albeit on easy runs waters
I've always fancied trying it again but how easy/difficult is it to actually make a good quality bait yourself ?

I quite often fish with bait that I have rolled fresh the night before. You just don't see many others doing it or even making their own.

Very easy. A little research goes a long way

If I had the time I'd do it again use to love making my own baits when I lived down south,I once bought some fresh squid and blended it up added it to a base mix and some red dye and then I realised it was to soft for hair rigs so used it to prebait with and this was on the river itchen,I caught one and when it was on the mat it was crapping out all this red bait so it obviously worked.
The added bonus is no one will ever be using the same bait as you and it's satisfying catching on something you e made yourself
