Looking for recommendations for new spod rod and reel, max budget prob 350 for both. Think I'd prefer a 13ft rod. Been looking at the free spirit s-lite and emblem spod, any better combos for the budget? Cheers

Tacklebox CF-X Spod rod and the latest shimano spod reel is what I use.The rod is the black edition and its superb and also The Tacklebox customer service is far better than Freespirit

For large spods at range I also use the 13ft CFX Spod rod. Bit of a heavy old beast but plenty of power and easy going to use. I use a Penn Afinity 7000 Ltd reel to keep the weight down a bit and lovely line lay for distance casting.
Also use a 12ft Aviator Spod for leading about and midi spombs. A much lighter, crisper and all round better rod but more money and doesn't handle the large spomb as well.
I hate spodding, but these two rods make it tolerable, particularly the Aviator.

Rods wise, i use a harrison aviator 13ft. It's a bit out of what you want to spend but if you can find a 2nd hand one, the blank is superb!
Reel wise, i went through 3 shimano spod reels in 8 or so years. I use a daiwa spod reel atm and its been going strong for 4 so far

Daiwa spod reel paired up with the tackle box rod or the shimano extreme are both fantastic. Used them both and prefer the shimano as it's slightly lighter and has a better tip suited to my casting.
Both rods in 13ft are capable of spombing 180 yards

They do 2 pal. Standard is around 4.5/5 lb and a heavier one if I remember correctly. Shimano is around 4.5/5 but the top section feels quicker

Used a daiwa emblem spod reel for as long as i can remember and its never missed a beat. Cant recommend them highly enough. If it ever did break i wouldnt hesitate to buy another one.
Iv got the free spirit SPM in 5tc and find it realy heavy, I'm now using the esp oynx in 4.5tc coupled up with the Diawa emblem spod reel and find it much more balanced, you can get both for around 300 if you shop about
