I'm after a bit of info on some of the classic carp rods. I'm definitely not in any need of additional rods, but I guess like most of us I'm always looking!!
When searching quite a few Simpson of Turnford rods come up. I know Simpson's are long gone and I've found it difficult to find out much about the blanks used for various rods they made. Same with older Hutchy rods. I'm a fan of Harrison blanks generally and have had Bruce Ashby built Chimeras in the past which I sold when I built my own Torrix's. I have to say I really liked the chimera blank and regret selling them. I've read a fair few Hutchy rods were built on Harrison Chimera blanks and also the mk1 Maddocks Challengers and possibly same with Simpson built rods.
I've seen Simpson IMX long rangers come up, are they the same blank as the Hutchy IMX's? And if so does anyone know what blank that is?
So does anyone have info on the various blanks used on some of the older rods? It's hard to find info when searching.

Looking at images of the Simpson IMX's, they look like they could be on ballista blanks, but.....?

Maybe send some pictures and a some info to Steve Harrison at Harrison rods and see if he can help you.

I've got a pair of 1981 Simpson's KMCF1s (11ft 2 1/4) and was always under the impression that they were Sportex blanks (I may be wrong).

That's a good shout. Even without pics he'd probably know what blanks they supplied at the time to various builders, but like he would now I guess.

Cheers, there's a guy selling some IMX's who has messaged me to say he believes they are sportex blanks. I know little about them, so will do a bit more research.

I have a pair of the 12ft 2.75lb IMX long range Simpsons
They are overfit not spigotted so very likely to be Harrison
They were definitely built by Roger Hurst and he told me they were Harrison blanks as they were plain with no weave etc.... and very likely to be Ballista
As far as I know he's still building rods as he built me a couple about 4 years ago
