As above.. anyone have any tips for spooling up a Daiwa emblem Spod reel with braid without a spare spool. Want to spool up with braid around 30lb 0.20 diameter maybe slightly less. Are there any Spod braids that will fill an emblem without backing? Usually use 29lb power pro but happy to try something else if I haven't got to guesstimate the amount of backing.

300m of .23 spod braid will only about half fill it...you will need a bulk spool

Is there already braid on it? If you consider the diameter of the line you are removing, you could remove the required amount with the help of distance sticks.

Cheers for the replies... considering how popular that reel is, i don't get the reasoning to why it takes so much line when 90% of anglers use braid for spodding and the vast majority of braid comes on 300m spools or less!

Sane reason it has a drag probably. Because it wasn't purely designed for spodding at all, just marketing.

I know a few lads who use these as fishing reels.
