They have Alps reel seats,everyone knows that rods snap with those fitted

I don't know about snapping rods, heard lots of talk about it but never seen any photos. What those Alps seats do add is 80g of unnecessary weight. Unfortunately Daiwa seem to only want to supply their top end rods with silly seats and rings. Hopefully now they have dropped the DF association they might make their blanks available for a decent custom build.

No I have never seen it either,my distance rods have alps seats and so has my mates.We have never had any issues,I really like them but it's personal choice

It will be down to the aluminium Alps seats not flexing - whereas a traditional graphite type seat, a Fuji DPS, for example will. I would imagine you would have to give it the absolute butt for an Alps seat to cause a failure mind. The idea is correct but I suspect the instances of this happening are very few and far between.

Genuine question..How does a reel seat flex with a solid reel foot clamped in it?

Exactly my thoughts

A valid question, although most reel feet are probably only about half of the overall length of the Alps reel seat itself. The flat spot created by the Alps (or any other) seat would be larger than that of the foot on its own.

The fact that nobody can produce a single photo as evidence says it all to me, not that I'd have one of the horrible blingy monsters anyway

I recently bought a set of mk2 century c2's from johnson ross and they had a carbon sleeve reel seat but had alps collars on.

a traditional DPS type seat of graphite composite construction will flex even with a reel clamped. I am not talking about degrees of deflection here - it's not a banana.

EDIT - and what Beyonce wrote - that is a more relevant point.
