Looking to cast PVA bags (4.5oz total weight) Max range will be 80/85yards.
I have 10ft 3.5lb rods and 12ft 2.75lb rods.
Which is going to perform better to be able to hit the range? the higher TC or the longer rod? Is 4.5oz too much weight for 2.75lb TC rod?
Would appreciate people's views/opinions

I'd look to the heavier rods but if you've only got those choices,give both a go.
A slow 'lob' type of casting could work with lighter rods but that also depends on action/taper. I've easily cast 4 to 5oz leads on Armalite SP in 13ft 2.75tc for example .

12ft rods are Free Spirit CTX and the 10ft Rods are the ESP Quick Draw rods.
As you say might have to give them both a bash and see what I can achieve.

I've got the ESP 10ft 3.5lb, they are stiff rods. I don't use them for casting, but they pull an 8oz lead in no bother. I reckon they will be fine casting a 4oz bag

Thanks for the reply. I am confident that the ESP rods would handle a 4.5oz PVA bag, but wondering if I can hit 80+ yards with the shorter rod? I have the Onyx compact big pit reels. Obvioulsy technique comes into it.

Something worth consideration is what stamp of fish you are targeting aswell.
Obviously you want to hit the range but with stiffer rods you are more likely to bump fish off and lose them if the fish are smaller in size.
I think its an issue even more so with the "trendy" short rods. I'd personally stick to 12ft and as light a rod as you can get away with.

I have FS S lites in 3.5lb and struggled to punch bags out at a reasoanable distance (mid 20 wraps) as the rods just lack backbone so I got some shimano tx2 intensity rods in 13ft and they were a revelation, they cast the bags out np whatsoever... recommended. 
It not just TC you need to look at. Action playes a huge part.

I have a set of 10ft 3.5 test Calvin Hancock Harrison rods that I use to routinely punch a 7x14 cm bag to the distances you are taking about. Ditto some 10ft 3.5 Nash Black ops. I took a Sonik Recon 2.5 test 8ft rod on holiday this year and managed about 50 yards out of that without the rod breaking a sweat. You'll achieve what you want with your existing rods so I wouldn't personally go spending a shed load of money on more rods if I were you.

I can cast a well tied 3oz bag much further than I can cast a normal lead clip and 3 oz lead - plus nothing really changes. Start lobbing out 4oz + without leaders and inadequate main line mean it will never be natural and without confidence - loss of accuracy, loss of distance and breakages are the norm (imo).
