With my recent buy of 10ft rods, i want to buy 2 little reel to put on them.
I have had lot of different reel during the years from tournies to my actual ultegra.
I looked at the 5500 XTD, but the owner of my regular shop have said to me to look at this Penn Rival reel, in 6000 size.
A lot of his customer that fish seawater have them and are very happy with them, he had good review from them.
I had a feel in the shop and it seem pretty good! Think they will be perfect for 10ft rods.
It is light (19oz), have a decent bearing (4+1) and ratio (4,8:1 to retreive around 87cm per turn).
The only thing that made me wait is that i dont know how Penn is reliable (like shimano and daiwa) and if the drag will stay smooth and progressive or not (i just love the shimano drag)
If some of you can help me as it seem to be a good reel for the price

I have Penn battle 3's in 6000 size. The power, build quality and drag are leagues ahead of my ultegras and aero Baitrunners.
The 6000 has max drag of 25lb, thats some serious power for a small reel, I don't doubt it could do it either. I regularly fish with them on 10lb (measured) drag setting and it ticks smoothly and linear. 1/2 turn seams.to be around 2lb,maybe bit quicker to the higher settings.but I doubt I would get anywhere near that when carping.

The drag on yours is different i think, HT-100 from what i see.

I have a pair of Penn Rival 7000's which I picked up on sale. I have used them for beach fishing for the last few months and I have to say they are really well built reels and feel great to use. If they are in the sale again I may well pick up a couple more. Penn have a fantastic reputation for the build quality of their reels so you don't need to worry about that.
