...my Daiwa Emblem X 5000t reels and getting Penn 7000 Affinity... would it be a significant upgrade worth making? Thanks

As would the Anti Reverse Gear upgrade....from Weston Developments @ £14.99
Doesn't appear to be strictly an "infinite" one way roller bearing upgrade but it must offer significantly more positions than the very clunky original set up.

thanks for the comments - i've already changed the line clips to some round sprung loaded ones. not sure what the anti reverse gear bit means though !

The gear shown in the pic. on Weston's site has three times the teeth of the std. anti reverse gear...that means the reel handle has three times as many positions when the anti anti reverse is engaged rather than the 1/4 turn clunky backlash of the std. gear.
It's not quite an infinite anti reverse, that has no backlash whatsoever...when that's engaged the bearing only goes one way, but it's a lot nearer it.
TLDR....Just buy the Penn Affinities

I've had the new gear put in a set of 6000t and they make them feel like a total different reel well worth doing

I don't think the original poster knows how an anti reverse worked and what the upgrade does......best he just buys another reel.
Did you swap the side plate bush for a bearing or was a bearing already fitted on your model.?
That makes a massive difference too.

I'll b honest ain't a clue my mate who service reels ant did them I saw it advertised on Weston and was bored in covid so had that and slow oscillation titanium line roller and they where already quick dragged only gud thing to come out of covid getting that new gear fitted lol

If Ant did them he would have put a bearing in along with the other work...they only cost a quid.

I upgraded the side bushes my shimano aerlex spod reels (spod and marker) to bearings.
I wanted to do this on my daiwa emblem S but they didn't want to come out, not sure if they are machine pressed in and I didn't want to force them.
The anti reverse gear, hmm, the original does allow a bit of backwards rotation before it engages but I can't see it being much of an issue. I didn't count the teeth when I serviced my emblems but I'd guess there must be eight teeth of the cog. How many are on the Weston anti reverse cog, maybe twelve???

There are 26 teeth on the Weston anti reverse gear.
The plastic bushes are discarded anyway..should have just cut them out.
On some Shimano reels the bearing upgrade is awkward as a great deal of disassembly is required and getting the original gear mesh setting is time consuming if they ran very smoothly previously ... you cut the plastic bush out in small pieces and replace with two thinner bearings that slip through the confined access easily.
Never saw the logic with manufacturers making one sideplate plastic bushed and the other side a bearing on any reel...not when a bearing costs less than a quid.
