Dealing with a blank, any tips on things to look at adjusting before I go again

Learn to accept blanks happen. It's why it's called fishing and not " catching"

It was the second time fishing this swim due to the lake being so busy when I arrived, the swim is at the back of the lake with the main bank fishing towards the me. I am fairly new to carp fishing and not fished in a lot of weed before and this swim had a bit of low laying weed and weed in general. I had a cast around with the marker float and found some gravel spots but didn't want to cast much more due to scaring fish off and the stares of other angler's., I ended up fishing d rigs over these gravel spots with wafters and catapulted boilies over the top and then fished one rod on a Ronnie rig over a slightly less clean bottom, had fish top over and in the general area but just couldn't do anything to nick a bite.

Always hard on presured lakes
Sounds like you fished OK, you were on fish
Preserver, ask questions and most of all think
A plan will fall on to place, me bombarding you with
Lots of bits and bobs won't help
Let us know what happens

It was also quite shallow where I was so had to fend of the birds etc, people seemed to be catching them mid water which is slightly deeper so maybe that's were I was going wrong

We all blank, we all just need to learn from them and adapt to them. Never waste a session just make sure you learn something from it
