Anybody know any info on the big pit alongside Marsh Lane in Hemmingford Grey? Not too far away from the St Ives Complex. More than happy for people to PM if preferred. Wanted to know who owns the place and what the stock of carp is like in the lake, looks like the place could hold some monsters? Not much info online... Maybe for a reason...

Low stock, but there are good carp in there. Some massive bream - I had an 18 and a 17, different fish. Not an easy water, I fished it about ten years ago and was more or less the only person on it. Not a water you can just ruck up and catch, needs work. I had several good fish, but not saying any more. Just walk round it and it shouldn't take long to spot a few... a few cats in there too, something I didn't know until I caught a couple of them.

No that secret. I think most people who fish the area, especially St.Ives pits, know the score. Low stock, some big fish, not at all easy... but... who wants easy. I think it's about £60 a year, including nights, which is dirt cheap for what you get. Not too many places to park the car safely though, which I know puts a few off and you get a lot of dog walkers, local kids, etc all around the water. Can be quite frustrating to fish when people seem intent on chucking sticks in for their dogs. Makes it hard to ignore the quality of the carp fishing just down the road, which is why a lot of people don't bother with it.
