Mahin knot for me, means that the tag end of the stiffer material faces away from the rings coming through on the cast.

distance casting always used to be the FG knot, used mahin as well and albright, all work

As we often use materials heavier than needed I wouldn't worry about what scores the best in online tests. Try tying a few popular leader knots and whatever one is easiest to you and repeatable with a positive test is the best..
I'll happily use a back to back uni or blood knot, Albright, fg whatever.
Have had to use a bimini twist to double the line and tie a double leg Albright to the leader for strength before, because the braid I figure was strangling and cutting the leader as a single strand short knot? It was sw popper fishing.
It's material dependent too. I like .36 or .41 power pro which is far easier to tie than, say 20lb whiplash. They're rated at 60 and 80lb odd but that's irrelevant, it's equivalent to the mono I'd use and won't break when tied to leadcore or 40lb mono/fluoro

Try the GT knot.several videos on you tube and really easy to tie.I've had no issues with it
