Hello. I have the daiwa emblem spod reel what I use for spod and marker work. The clutch is painfully slow when using it to let off line to bring the marker up. Has anyone modified one of these to make the clutch faster? Any tips how? Thanks.

The only way to correctly "speed" up the clutch/drag action is to replace the washers inside the spool.
There may be a bodge method by splitting the cap and replacing the internal spring with a spacer but without having a cap to inspect I am unable to confirm.
Weston developments do a kit..obtainable from Tackle Box in Kent @ £15.

I doubt you could buy a sheet of quality carbon and then source the tools to make the washers accurately for £9 so that's the one I'd go for.

Remove the cap and carefully prise it apart, you may have to part drill out the lugs. Remove the spring and replace it with a nut, from memory I think I used an M5. Alternatively, you can leave the spring in place and insert a cut down raw plug or something similar. Glue the two sections of cap back together and there you have it.
If you don't fancy doing the above. You can purchase a speed cap from Custom Reel Kings..

Just buy a Reel King quick drag cap and it's less than 1 turn locked to release line. They look great as well as being great quality.

Thats what i have on mine. Works great and much better quality than the plastic cap that comes with the reel as they are anodised aluminium, it even has a nice red decal on the front to match the red writing on the reel. Good price at £20 as well. It dosent get any simpler, unscrew original cap and screw on the new one, job done.
