Does anyone here know if you can use Bait boats on Stockport Fed Waters up in the North West?
Rule 19 states:
"Ground bait may be thrown in by hand or by use of a catapult, throwing stick, swim feeders, bait droppers and bait cups. No other mechanical means of projecting ground bait is allowed i.e Bait Boat."
However, "Ground bait" is not "Hook Bait"
Has anyone any experience on this issue?

Id say no and by the nature it already mentions no to a baitboat for groundbait gives you your answer.
I don't know officially now but I grew up fishing compstall and poynton and was glad when the bailiff said no to baitboats back then , they are also country parks with lots of public and wildlife on them and complaints wouldn't be far away from members of the public or boat clubs if bait boats were being used.

I draft legal agreements for a living and rule 19 is very ambiguous if you ask me. If they expressly wanted to avoid bait boats then there should be a rule simply stating no bait boats, and not include a restriction preventing their use in a limited manner only.
Do you see many bailiffs on Etherow Country Park by the way?

The federation was originally match orientated with little idea or care of carp anglers and the rules set up with that in mind, they have been changed over the years to affect carp anglers.
If you draft legal agreements for a living then if baitboats are not permitted in any capacity and you was challenged then you would get away with it and maybe enforce a written rule change?.
Not sure why you would want to use a baitboat on there anyway furthest island is about 50-60 yds and easy cast to get onto the shelf maybe 35 years ago they were the better spots but not now
I only went on for one evening last year bailiffs were walking round on a daily basis depending on time of year the number of times they came round, if anyone from the model boat club saw you they would complain as they have to be a member of their club and are only allowed from one spot on the backwater where there is no fishing with various rules

I think the spirit and intention of the rule is quite clear.
If you draft legal agreements professionally, make your own decision and live with it. If you can't fish without a bait boat go on waters that allow them.

Never seen one in use on any of the waters. Can't think of any waters you'd need one. Unless it's because of the lead weight rule and wanna get the bait over near the houses on PP

I'm not currently a member of Stockport Fed.
In all honesty I wouldn't use one there since as you say, it's an easy cast to the centre two islands, plus I fish PVA bags 99% of the time so a boat wouldn't really add much. For the past 5 or 6 years I haven't even used a bait boat so it's not a case of I can't cast either.
The point behind the post was unlike other clubs that I have been in, and my main club now, the rules are far clearer and not subject to any ambiguity or interpretation - yes I get the spirit of what its saying and I agree it would probably provoke a debate with a bailiff but, if I was so minded I'd be reasonably confident arguing that dropping a bait with one wasn't a breach of rule 19.
All hypothetical anyway, I'm lucky to find time to fish my club water but appreciate everyone's thoughts.

And people wonder why so many clubs still have a negative attitude to carp fishermen. You don't use one, you don't need one and they are unecesarry. Why on earth would you provoke an argument with a bailiff over a possibly ambiguous rule. Or perhaps provoke someone else to break a rule to see what happens.

I believe in black or white not shades of grey. It's dead simple isnt it, if you dont want bait boats then say so. I haven't provoked any arguments give your head a wobble.
