After 100 posts you can ask for a thumb which will allow you to access the classified section

Or do you mean the one actually above messages and not next to people's profile name / pic?
If so, it means someone has 'liked' the post / message
Edit - ah, i see you tried selling and was told you needed a thumb, so refer to previous post or read the FAQs and help section
