Evening all. Been fishing on my lake since last lockdown, everything going nicely. In the last month or so noticed my hookbaits when reeling in after less than 24 hours coming in tainted and smelling a little off. Prior to this happening I caught fish of these spots and had no issues with this happening. The spots are hard areas, sometimes gravelly. It's made the fishing harder as well since this problem began. The lake is very weedy and currently coming out of a bad algae bloom. Anyone else had this? or got any ideas? Before anyone says high pop ups this still doesn't make any difference.

Too much uneaten bait and the spots gone sour, find new ones

I wouldn't say that's the problem as it's all over the lake, it doesn't matter where you fish. The lake also because of the weed has been very quiet the last couple of months so hasn't actually seen much bait

Has the algae sank and put the fish off,

No I'd say the algae is in all the water column. The water clarity is starting to improve now however

If the lake is coming out of a bad algae bloom its possible the algae is decaying and silting up the bottom which could be tainting the baits? You've said that the spots are hard/gravelly but a thin layer of very sloppy/thin silt can be near impossible to feel on the drop.

That's just my guess.
