So, Harry Bignell clinched it and there's a few images floating around showing him almost bending a carp in half chucking it a few feet into the water. Some saying how disgusted they are at how match anglers treat fish, yet we all stick a hook in their mouth and always potentially cause damage, although we treat carp with seemingly a bit more respect. This is just how match angling is, right!? Either way, well done to him for winning.

Despite what we do, there are levels. It's the same with the meat industry. Yes, we kill them and eat them but we should not make their lives a complete misery prior to being drizzled with Franks Hot Sauce.

Having a similar debate on the boddington reservoir page, I've personally witnessed guys with over 100 pounds of carp in a keepnet, dragging them up the concrete steps and across the path to be weighed, then dumping them out.
I'm not sure how good a size 16 barbless hook on really fine mono is for the mouth of carp either!!

Education is the key and I think the match angling boys are learning fast about fish welfare....they just need to catch up a bit.

Remember it isn't that long ago that carp used to get lied on the wet grass...then we progressed to baby changing mats and exercise mats etc

The people shouting loudest probably aren't old enough to remember that.

It has been 30 years since the baby change mat days though, the match side really should be so far ahead of where they are now

The way the fish are treated - rammed into overstocked ponds, with sh*t water quality , no natural food, dragged out 3 times a week and thrown into a keepnet with little or no care is an embarrassment to angling. I understand that may seem hypocritical but I fish natural lakes where the fish have a fantastic quality of life with an abundance of natural food. They might get caught once or twice a year but they are looked after and returned with the utmost care and respect. It's totally different IMO
