never used a baiting pole before yesterday, last week I bought a Tackle box 18M pole, one thing I learnt was to give it a little twist after adding an extra section (its telescopic) to make sure it will spin when I want it to, the other was to put a little resistance on the line as it goes out to avoid tangle etc, I used a piece of foam in the butt ring, there must be lots of tricks I have not discovered yet, so, any good advise is very welcome.

I just ship it out on an open bailarm and loose line,, then tighten up as i start to get close. Then hold the rod up and feel for the drop. Ive watched loads of people just ship it out and drop it on a slack line.

Make sure the line is comming out of the spoon on the up wind side, so when it drifts off you can use the rod to pull it back upwind.
