I'm thinking of treating myself to a new rod and reel, it mainly will be used for surface fishing but would also like it to cover a bit of tench and barbel.

I've been looking at the korum triple tip and a daiwa legalis 4000. Do anyone have any better ideas or reviews etc?

If you have a budget, you could look at some of the older rods from the 90's - many were 2lbtc or 2.25tc - perfect for a bit of floater fishing but also ideal for tench/barbel etc, many can be picked up for £30-£40 a rod if you look around.

Paired with an older 8010 baitrunner or similar and you're away - quality gear and all for less than £80 for the full set up

I have a Korum twin tip and use the 1.75tc tip paired with a Mitchell 300 pro reel, great fun for floater work also had four the other night on anchored crust.

Mega was that fished with the running lead as it was back in the day, or fished with bolt set up (like an overdepth zig?)

Running set up set just below the surface, they were a bit wary of it right on top as there was a slight ripple on so small adjustment to just an inch or so below the surface and four in a few hours fishing, no monsters all low doubles but fun all the same on the light gear and lines.
