I put ice washers in my 2 shimano reels, plus I also put them in my spod/marker reel
As my marker rod has braid line I get the reel wet to make the line more easy to handle
After a while my spool was loose,even though the clutch is turned to maximum
Are my ice washers not working because they are wet
I checked my reel the other day and the spool was locked up tight
Is this because everything is dry
I probably didn't need to put ice washers in my spod reel as it only gets used with the clutch turned to maximum
Do you think the ice washers don't work when wet

If your dipping the spool under water your probably not doing the washers any good their is absolutely no need to dip the spool under water just splash some water over the braid

Maybe I should put original washers back in, if I can find them lol
As it's a spod/marker reel I have no need to have a clutch that goes from tight to loose in minimal turning
I obviously didn't think of that when I fitted them lol
I'm pretty new to carping lol

I thought my reel had broken when the spool was loose

The only thing I can it it down to is when the reel was wet and maybe ice washers don't perform when wet

Ice washers are dog s-hit if you're casting any sort of distance as you can't lock your reels up fully, same goes for fishing locked up, garbage. Unless you want to loose a digit when casting out braid, put the old original washers back in. Teflon washers are equally as crap as Ice washers. I'll never make the mistake of ever using anything like that again.

Have also put the original felt washers back (xtd 5500) the drag with ice / teflon washers is crap imo you lose to many drag positions, it's not even a 3/4 turn from open to close,
Closed was 100% closed, not only degreased the spool but also the washers.

Never had a problem with ice washers, then again never a problem with original felt washers.
