Hi, anyone used the Merkko Tufty Torch (or equivalent), do they work??

Have the Merkko one, yes it does work and at quite a distance too. The swans dont take much notice but Tufty's and Coots do along with Mallards. Works best on a dull day distance wise not quite so far on bright days.
Had some right laugh's herding the birdlife on my water into other peoples swims.

My mate has one. It's surprisingly effective. A lot of guys used to use laser pens on my waters, but they are a bit close to Heathrow and if you accidentally shone it up into the air I think you'd be getting your collar felt pretty quickly. The torch is probably a safer bet.

Mates got the Merrko and I've got the Carplife version, both work as well as each other on dull drab days or last light they're at their best but in bright bright sunlight at 100 yards + and neither have that much of an effect.
We've both found tuffty's they work the best, most coots some just don't bother them, swans and mallards not one bit in daylight hours so out with the green laser pen for them.

decent for tufties , coots and swans are not bothered in the slightest !

Do you find that the green lazer pen works for coots and mallards? Would a red lazer pen therefore work on tuftys at a tenth of the price?

If you can line it up in daylight and catch them right yes but the laser pen is best in low level light conditions a bit hit and miss in daylight, as for the red laser I doubt it would be any different.

I love my one .yes they are bloody expensive but works in day light on tuffties and on some coots.
