Hi there,

I am relatively new to bait making and I am trying to put together a mix based on the BM 1. i have got some Lactose Concentrate B which I was thinking of putting in at 30 gms a Kilo, but am not sure whether to use it, because it says to use as a lure only ?
Does anyone know if it would be safe to use in a boilie mix ? Would it do the fish any harm ? if yes, what would it do to them ?
Also, what would be a good alternative ?

Thanks.

Personally I WOULDN'T BOTHER.
Stick to the original recipe, it is a time served, tried and tested winner.

That is far far too high for Lactose B. 5g absolute max per kilo.

It will be fine at low levels. At high levels the bait will taste absolutely terrible.

Thanks for your replies. I am trying to get an understanding how different additives work and why ? In another recipie it asked for 0.3 % candy sweet. I didnt know what candy sweet was, is , I guessed it was sweet, but could not find any anywhere, that's why I bought Lactose concentrate B, it sounded good? So what could I use instead of candy sweet ?what is candy sweet?
Thanks.

Probably Solar tackles, MIXMASTER LIQUID CANDY SWEETNER.
Comes in 100ml bottle for £10.99

Candy Sweetener is the only sweetener to contain Talin, the sweetest natral product known to man. It has no bitter after taste and provides exceptional tatse-enhancing properties to any bait. It works extremely well with fish/savoury mixes as well as the more obvious fruity and creamy baits.

Lactose B will be fine...at 0.3%. Which is 3g per kilo, not 30g. You may have just worked it out incorrectly.

Yes, it looks like I got my maths wrong ! The question is now, if you don't mind, do I use my Lactose concentrate B, or do I use Mixmaster candy sweet, or both ?

They're both good, and do pretty much the same thing, so it won't really make much difference to be honest. I'd try the Lactose B first, and see how you get on with it.

I think I know the recipe that you are talking about. I have made it before and instead of the candy sweet as in the recipe I replaced it by using 1ml Talin per kg. The talin I get is from AA Baits. I also didn't use poultry protein meal, I replaced this with feather meal.
As a bait it works very well

I tried to get some Talin from AA but they sold out. So got some solar as I mentioned below. Give it a go |
