What in your opinion is the best helicopter setup when using a Braided ShockLeader as opposed to Leadcore?
Would I be better looking at using a naked kit?
Using 50lb Braided leader with a diameter of 0.37

Why not use the same stuff you would use on lead core or lead free sinking leaders?

That's the plan, my only concern is the bead that stops the rig flying too far up the line not getting enough/too much grip on the braided leader. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

I've never mixed and matched the different gear but would think the naked stuff would be tighter on the braid. Many popular monos go between point 32 mm and point 35 mm. The braid you describe is thicker.

I wouldn't use the braided shock leader straight to the end tackle as it can be very harsh on the fish , tubing is hard to use with a heli set up so i would use a short length of leadfree leader on the end of your braid shock leader to help protect the fish, then you can use more normal bead set up

I use that solar lead free leader gear with ArmaKord for the shock leader. For the lead free leader I use the Korda leadcore Heli bead kits (wider bore than the naked kits) with a Nash tungsten Heli sleeve (looks like a pointy hat) for the lead which is fixed.

Thought about that but it's another knot to fail. The Braided Leader is 37mm which is as thick as some monos, albeit a different material.

Under 30" I reckon Woody. Starts to become a long way over knots the hook links got to travel with a crack off or snagged fish.

If you think it is fine because it is 0.37mm and similar diameter to most mono's then wet it, tighten it and rub it across your own skin it will more than likely cut you, how would you feel if you caught a fish that was damaged by using such a set up?
I have seen the damage a braided leader can do it was 50lb armakord the angler had tried to protect the fish by using tubing with a leadclip set up but unfortunately the tubing came free from the tail rubber at some point during the fight.
I would never use a standard braided leader straight through to the end tackle imo its wrong

Yes it doesn't need to be a long length but something like a korda no trace bead that leaves the leader should let the swivel come clear in any breakage

In have yet to find a bead that fits perfectly on a unleaded braid leader , so I slide about 10 - 15 mm of silicone rig tube on the leader then pull the beads over this . There's enough pressure to hold the beads in place and slide of easily , even easier when the come off the rubber sleeves on to the braid hope that helps .

I agree that there should be a short section of something sensible to protect the fish.
If you're putting a helicopter set up on straight through armoured braid you might as well tie the bloody bead on for what it's worth. More chance of Jim Shelley's balls dropping than the fish riding up 3 1/2 rod lengths of supple(ish) braid
