Hello chaps, does anyone know a reliable way to create a matt finish on rod whippings. I've tried the seymo pro matte but that didn't seem to set fully and went more like a silicone skin although perhaps that could be down to user error maybe.

Can you not abrade the stuff you usually use with coarse polish or fine paper/wool?

Thanks for the suggestions chaps, both worth investigating for sure, i did get some ultra fine grade glass paper so i will do a test run on this although I'm slightly concerned i may affect the integrity of the top coat, i will also try the semo stuff over the top to see if that sets harder on top of a surface. I have read something this morning that you can use a flattening agent such as talc to create matte so that could also be worth trying

Baking soda is another fine cutting powder, tbh tho, when I tried to flatten the finish on an epoxy river pour worktop it just didn't look right so I had to varnish it. Even with a satin polishing compound it just didn't have the same vibrance.
You may find the flattened epoxy just looks milky

Thank you for that, that might well work as i have rebuilt the butt sections of these rods but the tips are untouched, the varnish on them looks cloudy and is textured to the touch (nash scopes latest version)
