I've recently moved to Cambridge (CB1) and I am looking for a place around the city where I can fish for carp. I have seen some anglers near Cambridge Chauffeur Punts a few days ago but I was in a rush so I did not have a chance to ask anything. I understand that you can fish some parts of River Cam (around the City Centre) but I am not sure where I can and cannot go and I would like some guidance if possible. I also heard that Barnwell Lake is currently closed and Cawcutts Lake has a long waiting list, but correct me if I am wrong.

I am only looking for a few hours of fishing each week and I do not have a car atm so ideally looking for something close to me. Any recommendations are welcome.

Hi,

Whilst you can fish the river, there a very few if no carp in there any more. Also once lock down is reduced the stretch between Baitsbite Lock and Jesus Lock will be filled with rowing boats. There were carp at Milton Country Park (you need to join CFPAS to get access) but last I heard it was getting ottered.

The only places I know of that have carp near Cambridge are a car drive away. It would be worth contacting CFPAS and asking them as they would know better than most I think.

If you just want to fish then river near Granchester (South of the City and within cycling distance) always used to be good for Chub and Pike.
