Hi, I've only recently started needing to fish at 100yards ish, sometimes slightly less or more.
I currently have gravity X 3.25 rods and tbf I like the way they play fish and I know they can cast far in the right hands but I feel like I haven't got the ability to compress them as I was struggling to hit 90 yards with them the other day with a 3oz lead and 16lb line.
I used my mates Grey's prodigy 2.75 with a 2.5oz lead at the end with 20lb line and could cast as far with it as mine near enough.
Also baiting up, I have an spm rod which I know can hit the distance as well but only could hit the spot a few casts and dropped slightly short most of the time where as my old cheaper 4.5 spod rod I felt I could cast further, surely I should be able to spomb that far with an spm?
I'm thinking about a casting tuition at some point but wondered if the action wasn't suited to me?
I'm scared of really pelting it without a shcokleader as well as have cracked off a couple of times when I didn't think I should have, could this be down to the action as well?

What cracked off ? The spomb or fishing rod? What 16lb line are you using, and what line is on your spomb reel?

No not cracked off with spomb rod just saying I couldn't reach it with the spomb rod that's all. Cracked off with a 3oz lead on my fishing rod without even pelting it just leading around.

Watch his other videos and dissect his cast. When you're casting without a leader, what you want to do is start slow and finish fast so as to not crack off. If you were to cast really fast from nothing, you'd end up cracking off depending on how fast that cast is.
Sounds like you're not moving that lead fast enough so you are not hitting the range you want. Obviously long range rods make things easier, but as some have found out, the Shimano TX2 for instance can hit some savage ranges.
I'm betting your cast is quite slow and laboured, faster hands, faster tip, faster lead speed, greater range.
You know you could go to the lengths of videoing your cast to see what you're doing. Definitely lessons with the likes of Terry would have a great impact on your technique for the better.

What 16lb line is it? If you say exocet or pb control i wouldn't be surprised as you have to go up in the breaking strain to achieve the same diameter of normal 15/16lb all this super thin stuff is nonsense

What breaking strain is your spomb as well? If you are thinking your will crsck off you will not be hitting it hard enough and not compressing the blank, you will not hit any kind of distance. For mega range you need to have to fear.
