I've recently bought myself a Spopper for baiting up on the river when I'm Barbel fishing. The Spopper weighs 3.5oz unloaded. Do I need an out and out Spod rod, or would a high TC Carp rod do ??

Much depends on the size of the river, even on a big river if your only lobbing it mid river then a heavy carp rod would be fine as it'd be like chucking a large pva bag.

I use a long range s class spod rod with mine on the trent as its 6oz without bait. You will be fine lobbing yours out on say a 3.5 carp rod but if its more than a lob get a spod rod.

Arch..if it's the one sold on the BFW site..they are tiny.
It's the midi spomb size.
A 3lb test carp rod will handle it easily.

It is one off the BFW site. I've never had one before so didn't know what to expect. They're £18, the ones of the bay are £30 but obviously larger. The one I bought looks just right, but I've nothing else to go on. Be mainly Hemp and 3mm pellets going in it, with the odd boillie.
My Barbel rods are 2lb TC, I've used 7oz on the river with them, but didn't want to use them for the Spopper. A second hand Spod or Carp rod is alright. I won't be using it much on the local rivers I fish, I'll mainly use it for the Trent at Newark.

I was disappointed when mine arrived. Aye..£18 plus the postage now.
I was expecting a larger size... The ebay ones use decent spombs for the conversion,,these are just the four for £7.99 cheap chinese ones.They will take a coffee mug full of pellets using the filler hole.
I partly bought mine just to see how easy they are to convert.
There is a bloke on a facebook page that does the lead casting part (Small or large) for £5 delivered I have just found out.

I've been using a large Korum blockend to feed the swim, so the Spopper should be a little easier. I'll see how I get on.
